I have a doubt which of these two has better sound amplitude, for games and horror movies with Dolby Atmos with excellent sound, the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro or the Hifiman HE400SE?
As long as you're not searching for a heavy v shape bass heavy sound these are incredible. The sub bass extension is so ridiculous you can hear it sitting on your desk. They just do not respond to the boosted bass very well. They also are very power hungry and not quite capable of really being pushed that hard. Regardless if all you want is to hear what it's supposed to sound like grab em. They're better than your old ones guaranteed unless you've got something like the Sony WH-1000xm4 or something then that's just totally different usage scenario. They're really comfortable for all day sound with glasses, too and the design relies less on a perfect seal for the bass, they thump on the desk (not literally but you can perceive the sub bass which is unheard of on something with 40-50mm dynamic drivers).
I bought the Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R for the same price a few months ago and they have been amazing for all content. I just hit the various toggles on the atmos app and switch between music and gaming. For gaming the positional accuracy exceeds anything I've used before. I did buy and return some vastly more expensive headsets and this outpaces them all. It would be interesting to see how they compare to this.
Thanks for sharing; I've tried getting hold of Beyer stuff, but they don't seem keen to want to send to honest reviewers like myself - their policy hasn't changed in the last few years, so have put them on my blacklist :)
@@TotallydubbedHD lol that's extreme. These specific headphones have reviewed well. Its a shame about beyerdynamics policy. You could try a pair on amazon and return lol
I just got these for $100 on Amazon and reviewed them there the other day. I get a much better bass performance out of them using my Fosi Audio N2 amp's bass boost switch, for sure. Stock, you get some bass but it's the usual somewhat light planar bass. I would EQ and amp boost them for more bass, once you do, you've got a much fuller sounding pair of planars on your hands. I almost always use the bass boost function on my headphone amps. Sometimes I'll kill it for classical or jazz, though.
good video, one question, which of these two audio interfaces has better sound quality and would also serve to power those hifiman he400se with enough volume?... the Audient iD4 MKII USB-C or Audient EVO 4?
My Topping Nx3s runs battery powered but with the bass boost on no EQ max volume will cause certain bass frequencies distort. I run it at roughly 3/4 volume normally. So maybe research the power output of that amp to the ohms of the headphones and see. They're not that power hungry just have their sweet spot
@@SakuraMorandi are you sure? im about to get my first 'audiophile headphones' after I used gaming brands all the time, I will get a dac too. I was wondering whether X2, these, or the beyerndynamic mmx300. what do you think? the mmx300 comes with a mic but with the other 2 I can plug a vmoda on it anyway so should be fine
@@ExitiumD Yes, the X2 are miserable, boomy bass and brittle treble. The metal construction may look good at first, but the suspension of the earcups has a weak point that tends to break. And its way to heavy. I don't like the Hifiman either, only the low bass is good. For gaming maybe MMX300 is good enough, but for music I always would get an open back (not beyerdynamic)
Do I absolutely really, really need an AMP to drive this to a reasonable volume? I'm still deciding between this or SHP9500 but if I need to buy a separate AMP for this the price difference will be huge, and it'll be a deal breaker.
@@TotallydubbedHD Yup I did. I was actually surprised about your comments on the build quality being good knowing that Hifiman is notorious for it's build and QC issues. I think I'll just go for this instead of the 9500.
@The Caring Adolf Hitler I'm just planning to buy it to complement my HD 58X since they have a different sound signature. I'm pretty sure you will benefit from a decent amp since this has low sensitivity of 91db
@The Caring Adolf Hitler yup. definitely need amp. planar bit different to drive. in my case phone and pc can drive it but lack of volume and mid. ps: using gain make it worst.
@@codetrain020 Your take on HiFiMan's "lacking" quality control is only about oh, I dunno, ≈5-10 years out of date?... -_- ... So uhhh... way to go with the vintage, no longer remotely applicable joke???... I guess??? Here in the real world otoh they listened to their customer feedback and have had GREAT build quality (esp. for the price) and absolutely FANTASTIC customer service for like 3-4 years now, at LEAST! You can see JUST how fast modern HiFiMan reacts to customer feedback in the HE400se's OG cable debacle.
@@TotallydubbedHD Just rewatched the video. Didn’t answer my question, whether they’re better than the 560s in Warzone, but maybe you don’t know thanks anyways 👍
Good question; the Sundaras are more refined - they have a bit more forward mids (again still V-shaped), extend higher at the top end but more importantly provide that extra bit of airiness, width and depth than the HEs can achieve.
@@TotallydubbedHD Do you think the Sundara is worth 4x the price of the HE 400SE? The Sundara in my country cost about $350 while the HE 400SE is just around $85.
@@codetrain020 Not even close, IMO. The Sundara's are better, no doubt. But they're not THAT much better. If you want a LEGITIMATE step up from the HE400se's in terms of open-back planar magnetics, you REALLY need to go up to HiFiMan's brand new "Edition XS" which has an MSRP of $500 but can be found new on AliExpress for $440. The new Edition XS is basically just the HiFiMan "Ananda" but w/ the IMO VASTLY more comfortable & ACTUALLY padded headband from the HE400se & similar, and now for like ≈-$100-$200 cheaper than before ($440-$500 vs ≈$600-$700).
Why have such an open ended and suggestive title. Are they the best budget headphones?, yes they are. I get so tired of reviewers afraid to state their true opinion on things. If you truly love them then just say so, what are you afraid of?
