Just shows how the wonderful performance of Chord's Dacs has motivated the industry to compete with them by upping their own product's performance. I have just bought my first Chord Dac, the Qutest and couldn't be happier with it's superb sound. No brand loyalty here but the Qutest is THE Dac at the £1000 price point. Glad to see Cyrus having a go at competing.

Chris Simmonds chord qutest the best dac under 4K period. Everyone will need to up their game and lower their price points. To be the qutest, you’d have to spend close to 5k. Maybe the denefrips terminator.

16/44.1 is as good as you need. Most people can't reliably tell the difference in repeated tests between it and higher resolution files. Any differences heard will be in the mastering rather than the resolution itself.

And here we are now a few years later without any progress in the area of DAC chips. Moreover, chips of any kind are very hard to find. It seems that everyone is switching to R-2R technology. Which is good because it sounds better.

Yeah, R2R may have more noise but they just sound better just as an lp on a good system can sound better than a delta sigma dac.

TL;DR version - no, FPGA hasn't had its day yet, high end DAC still playing catch up but may better FPGA in time if they keep innovating and Chord don't.

I suspect most audio companies start with good development, then rest on their laurels and just pump out new products with minor tweaks.

The Sony TA-ZH1ES uses FPGA, and is regarded as one of the best DAC currently available. Why pay a truck-load of money on Chord, dCS, when you can have maybe the best DAC from the company which invented the CD player (with Philips). Later on Sony strikes back together with Philips by making the SACD. Food for thought.

Interesting presentation but this awful microphone placement is so disagreeable and distracting. Difficult to endure 😣 Being able to explain so complicated things but not being able to correctly place a microphone is something I cannot understand.

I am a Cyrus fan. I have 3 of there amps. So this is not to bash Cyrus. But all the talk of higher res files is currently a waste of time. As most music is still 16/44. Or if we want, can even find, music we like in high res 192/24 ect. It costs 3 times a normal album. Tidal stream some higher res, but most is cd quality. 3 year old Chord DACs make a good job of reproduction from 16/44.

Never been a fan of Cyrus, their kit has never sounded organic to me. This lecture is pointless as FPGA development from the likes of Chord and dCS will continue and beat any future off the shelf DAC chip.

22:50 Omg... This guy gets this whole part about sampling rate/oversampling and Chords innovation dead wrong and just moves on like it's nothing. Brilliant. smh...

bar none, the best DACs are made by a company called dCS in England... anything else is second fiddle.

IMHO A rather weak attempt to perhaps intimidate potential purchasers of Chord DACs by suggesting that there will be a superior "conventional non FPGA" DAC from alternative companies(including CYRUS) in the near future. Considering that this presentation was in 2019, the news is rather bad for those audio companies. It didn't happen...............

After he says "trust me" at begining i belive to not trust he. He lying about smd capacitors at the end. They not have to chose, they have to read datasheet. So by manually listen capacitors, oscilloscope and phase analysys show no benefits at the sound frequency's or digital IC's data lines. So this is necessary in powerfull radio applications, DSD, gigaherts oscilloscopes ADC's, e.t.c. high current on high frequency's

Why would anyone want to do something so silly, it would dramatically reduce their potential customer base.

A TALK about this subject, and then use a microphone which is so terrible that the whole talk becomes irritating. pls, put out a new video with better audio.
