FYI: I purchased the AA adaptor for my MAWL. It has extended the battery life while on standby mode. I left it on for a day and it still had operating power.
I feel like due to the pricing and performance being really close between 3 of 4 lasers at a certain point it would all come down to preference and ergonomics. The MAWL is the heaviest of all lasers and has the best ergo for some users essentially mimicking the shape and positioning of a flashlight, but arguably has the widest offset while the NGAL is like half the weight but still has a typical offset for an IR laser and the RAID has the most diverse functions, similar weight to the NGAL and smallest footprint while having a centerlined emitter.
Out of all 4 the PEQ 15 under some circumstances has the least features, perhaps the worst illum and is the 2nd heaviest of the 4 but has the lowest pricepoint.
It came a bit too late for that, the GWOT money showers that created the huge grey market for PEQ15s was already starting to dry up when it first came out.
Ive got the Dbal D2 and the illuminator i good for being a civilian class unit. Much cheaper than the units in this video. If I ever see ya'll at a night shoot I will let you check it out. I got it on sale for a few buck less than a 1k. If you have ever seen the steiner SPIR, the d2 has the same illuminator.....Probably heavier than all the featured ones here.
I have a vir2 and am mostly not happy with it. I LOVE the form factor and wish they'd improve the zeroing and give it a bit more power. It's ok as a pistol light, maybe on a pdw. But it lacks "clicks" on the zeroing, the illuminator is very weak and the zero may shift. It's ok on a glock handgun, and yes you can run it at 12 oclock on a mk18 etc. But the terrible zeroing, weak illuminator and lack of precision make it dissapointing.
Incorrect. They are easily available and modlight makes aftermarket ones and in stock as of today. Maybe you’re thinking of an airsoft NGAL style unit.
@@CB-ux5xc incorrect. look at the time in which this was written. Modlite didn’t release their ngal button until 2-3 months later. Attention to detail.
The reason some complain about the NGAL and water is because it is sold in two variants - the A7 version which is water resistant to only 1-meter, and the A1 variant which is the 30-meter version. The A7 is meant for infantry/ground elements and domestic law enforcement, whereas the A1 is designed for NSW dudes and tactical cephalopods. Also, the A1 variant is reported to be hardened against prolonged exposure to designer haircare products. In short, look at the label on your NGAL and see if the P/N ends in A7 or A1. Every NGAL I’ve seen in civilian or LEO hands is an A7. Lastly, the NGAL is the most expensive of the bunch, at the moment. Agency price is now just over $5K. Agency price on the RAID-X/Xe (Xe is the newer RAID and fixes a few RAID foibles) is around $3500 and Agency price on the MAWL-DA (the full power version of the C1+) is just $2250. So, strictly from a “performance per dollar” perspective, the MAWL-DA is the clear winner… for now.
Was able to snag an NGAL for just north of 3k. And I did not know about the A1 vs A7 factoid. Checked my order and glad that I lucked out with getting the A1 version. Thanks for sharing.
@@petercristiano4068 checkout ownthenight or underground ordnance if you’re LE or MIL. also try Triarc systems, hawked and loaded, wills optics for any left over used units. They’re hard to come by even with credentials and come with a long wait time bc they have to come direct from L3. They’re even harder to find as a civ and more expensive.
Really quality content right here, dudes. Question: The full power PEQ-15 in this video, was it a 35mW or 45mW unit? Or was it an LA5B? Reason I ask is the thumbnail shows an LA5B, but you guys referred to it as a PEQ-15 and mentioned the LA5 had really bad artifact(s)/line through the illuminator which wasn’t present in the video.
I'll check the output but the LA5 didn't make it through testing. We mention it in the opinions portion but the original intention was for us to use a LA5. It had problems that we mentioned so we punted to the PEQ15
@@sobekdesignsllc LA5B should have 100mW of output. Some of the early standard full power PEQ-15’s only had 35mW, whereas the later units were upped to 45mW. Just didn’t know if the footage in this video used a standard full power PEQ-15 or a high power LA5B.
@@WheelchairOperator an easy way to tell which is which from far away is just look at the left side of the unit on the top. The PEQ has a flathead screw for elevation adjustment of the illuminator and the LA5 has a distinct cylindrical knob. Happy hunting
If you're running an eotech with magnifier, I can only see about 80yards to zero the laser. Can I use the 6x magnifier to zero my laser further out like you do your scope and laser or will it be off bc I used my magnifier.
When talking changing settings, how often do you find yourself actually changing settings while you are shooting? Lets say room clearing type situation, do you really ever change the settings? Thanks great content
I had issues in high humidity with the MAWL. It was about impossible to clear condensate off the lens due to the rotary dial. RAIDx you just wipe it right off.
Lol. We did the last comparison with a pvs14. Unfortunately, the white balance on the camera blows everything out so we had to use a syionx. It's the most accurate representation but is admitedly lower rez. Best of worst options.
Sorry for the late reply. If you have the money NGAL. Overall... I'd still give it to the PEQ. Fairly cheap. Battle proven. Acceptable performance for most scenarios.
Is it safe to use the Zeus-X 7 watt blue Laser indoors IF laser strikes bricks on fire place? What if laser strikes walls or ceilings? Are white surfaces safe? ? What about surfaces which are not white?
I am no laser expert but I would not use that sort of output indoors at all. These rifle mounted lasers peak at 100mw amd I still don't use full power indoors.
I have very little time with it but it's performance is real impressive. The ergos and weight make it not a great fit for me personally but it can definitely hang with the higher end.
Yeah, it seems more "checkered" in mid-range mode compared to other videos I've seen of other MAWLs. It's never been enough of a concern to worry about fixing it though. In actual use, you don't really notice it.
I have one of those too. They're awesome, when they work. Mine failed after changing the battery for the first time. IR laser started operating at 10% power. It was bizarre. Had to send it back to Russia for repairs. Currently sitting at 2 months waiting for it to come back.
@@sobekdesignsllc thinking about a Springfield saint Victor pistol l, your thoughts? Thanks for the responses you and others are helping me with future builds so I really appreciate everything my friend
@@apimpnamedsirslickback for a light .308 pistol? Maybe pof at the very least if they make one. I don't see the need for a .308 pistol. What are you using it for? Kinda silly with nods because even with a can the flash will be ridiculous. If you want to sling 30 caliber bullets get a .300 blk. If you want a little more velocity get a CZ bren 2 or ace galil pistol in 7.62x39. There's also a Bren 2 14.5" in 7.62x51.
@@sobekdesignsllc One thing to me from the mawl at least personally is a great draw back is that the low to long range mode settings. Although it has the most intuitive control and easiest ergonomics but it also lack of capabilities to adjust the beam patterns and it would be a disadvantage in combat. Because it takes more time to scan things and it might not be the exact brightness you want or needed to be clear to spot something. Other than that, it would serves peoples very well in the wild and the flat range. The ngal is really expensive though, so I put it behind the mawl😂.
Raid with green vis > NGAL. Followed by LA5 then PEQ15 FP then a MAWL. Plenty of MAWLs breaking on the Internet groups for $3000 I rather get a salty PEQ15 FP for $2000.
