Everything is so pretty! That table turned out awesome and the chunky spindle may have been a pain but it is gorgeous! Ever underestimate the power of a crafter! So happy I found you!
Hi Tammie...like Sandy mentioned above, there's an easy fix for your distressing problems on your candlestick, your finials and in your artichoke from last episode. After covering your pieces with black spray paint, wait for it to dry and then seal it in with anything but a wax. You can use a liquid, or a spray clear coat. After that dries, paint in your ivory or plaster or whatever, and distress! As long as you don't use a crazy amount of pressure (wet distressing is best), your sealer should keep your black paint in place! Thank you for sharing your time, talent, & lovely projects!
Looove that table's new look and how awesome to learn from you about combining an ebony stain to hide those flaws that we sometimes just can't escape. BTW why not try sealing the candle stick with oil based shellac in order to stop bleedthrough when distressing
Yes, I skipped that part because of being in too big of a hurry. I will be working on it again for my next 3rd Thursday Thrift Flip!! Thank you so much! Thank you for watching! 💖💖
Yep! I thought about that after! Plus I forgot to seal the black spray paint. That is what happens when I am trying to hurry and finish my video. 🤦♀️ Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
Hi! I just discovered your channel and subscribed! I do a bit of furniture makeovers and your big candle holders, I didn’t see you seal them at all. Usually with anything that has a dark or bright color, I will spray with a couple coats of shellac first, then the chosen color paint, then seal with clear coat before attempting to distress. Then wax. If you’re not sure of the wax, clear wax first, then the colored wax, that way if the colored wax isn’t right, it will wipe right off. Hope this helps a bit. Looking forward to more videos!
Yes, I was in a hurry and forgot to seal them after I painted them black. I am still working on the one with the oven cleaner to strip off the paint. Thank you so much for the tip! 💖 Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
Thank you so much! We don't do this monthly but I would love too. I will get with Ellie to see what we can come up with because our next one would be Hello Summer. I will see if she has something in mind sooner! We would love to have you, let me get with her and then reach back out to you. Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
I didn't let the wax dry, and I blended the paint with the wax. And then I didn't show this, but I did seal it afterwards. I always seal my projects with the 2X Clear Flat sealer or PloyAcrylic, it just depends on the project. Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
aaawwwww! Okay, I will have to get that one. I am not sure what the difference is, but I will try it Thank you so much for the tip! Thank you for watching! 💖💖
Oh Tammy!! I love everyone of your flips. The table with the ebony stain is gorgeous and by far my favorite piece. I will definitely be ready for your collab next month, I'm excited to participate and have a few thrifted pieces I need to work on. Tfs💜
Tammie, everything turned out so pretty, I have that ebony stain and it always looks so dark for me but it looks perfect on the table with the white, I’m going to have to give it another try. The lamp is really pretty, thanks for collabing together each month😀💕my kids want a female shepherd so we can have puppies!-wish we were closer-I know I’ll be the one who has to take care of a puppy not to thrilled with the idea😎
Oh goodness a puppy! They are so much work!! So my female is such a jealous Judy, but she is so smart! She is too smart!! I took her to training and I could train her to do anything, except for barking at everything that moves. But she is a mama's baby big time and so beautiful, just so clingy and needy. But I love her. I love this collab! I love Plaster with the Ebony stain. I think it is so elegant. Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
Yes, I am just an impatient crafter, and I am usually in a time crunch. This particular day we were getting ready to leave on vacation the next day. But yes, I do we distressing when I have the time. I agree it might have worked better. Thank you so much for watching!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Omgoodness! I love that table so much! The lamp and the books are absolutely gorgeous! I love everything! I buy chunky candlesticks every chance I get and I love them so much too! Thank you so much for sharing! Hope you have a wonderful vacation! 😊💕🌸
I was almost in a tizzy hoping the lady would put them down and when she did I got to them as fast as I could. I was like "well she is crazy for not buying these.....mine!" (in my head of course) LOL!! Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
Great flips. I know all about stopping projects because it's not going my way or it's timely. I've never heard of oven cleaner as a paint stripper, hmmm. Tyfs and hosting Tammi ❤
I saw it on tiktok someone used it to get in the the ornate carvings of the wood and it seemed to work for them. I wasn't having much luck or I was being to impatient. That very well could have been the issue. I like quick and easy. Thanks so much lady for participating! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
Have you ever tried the wet distressed technique??? After you put on the black ...then the white .... let the white dry then use a wet towel to wipe off only the white to let the black show through
Yes! That is what I was going for. I just forgot to seal the black paint first. But I do believe the baby wipe method would have worked beautifully. Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
Lol@cabbage! Well, I love them. The table is gorgeous! I can't wait to see the chubby candlesticks next time. Did you keep the metal laurel candle holders the same? Enjoy your vacay! ❤
LOL! I painted them black and then white, they turned out so beautiful! I just forgot to film them, but I will show them next time. Yes, I will show the chubby candlesticks again and how that turns out! LOL they reminded me of cabbage 😂😂 Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
When I tint my wax, I only use a dab of paint. The clear wax is milky so when you mix it, the color of the wax is going to look a little lighter than the color of the paint but once the wax dries, it will be the same color as the paint. You really just want a tiny dab of paint.
I totally over did it!! That was my first time trying that. I will try it again with a lot less paint!! 😂😂 Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
You think it might be your sanding block that's causing your distressing to not turn it right? I've recently discovered some sanding blocks are more harsh than others even though they're marked the same.
Yes, I think I still have some dollar tree sanding blocks mixed in with my good ones. And I forgot to seal the black paint so that is another reason. I should have wet distressed them. But I have a feeling they are going to be beautiful in the next video. Stay tuned to next month!! Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
Tammie these came out beautiful!!! I get so mad when I go to the thrift store because they never have anything!!! But I’ve been trying not to go to thrift stores or DT till I use at least some of my stuff in my basement lol I have no room for anything!!!
Girl me too!! I was not supposed to go thrifting but I did and I blame my sister! 😂😂😂 I never find things like this in my town, we were about an hour and half away and I could not believe I found these awesome finds. I was so in love and my cart was overflowing!! Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
Whoever it was that started this DIY trend of using oven cleaner to strip furniture and pretended it was a good idea owes the crafting world a huge apology! 🙄 It's wrong for so many reasons. I see YTers having to use FIVE applications of oven cleaner and saying “it worked!”. No. It didn't. If you put five layers of ANY toxic chemical on and scrape the wood each time it's going to remove the finish. If they had used actual stripper it would've been done in 1 ... or maybe 2 for multiple layers of paint. Ugh!!! Ok... I'll step down off my soapbox now. lol Anyway... Nice job and good on you for showing that not everything always goes as planned. They all turned out good in the long run. (I kind of liked the green cabbages! 😆)
LOL! You preach on sister!! That shit did not work and that is what you are going to hear in my next flip video. I don't have the time to put in 10 coats of that crap and then keep sanding it down. I need it stripped and done!! You are the only one that caught that so far!! LOL!! I was getting so frustrated. Thanks so much! 😊💖 Thank you for watching!🥰🥰
@@TheRustedWillow haha! Looking forward to that video. Someone has to take a stand! LOL! I don't even use that smelly toxic crap on my oven where it belongs. Why would I use it on wood?! I just don't get it. 🙄
Hi Tammie! The round cards table came out gorgeous. I was laughing when you decided to keep the pieces for the next month flip challenge. I love the vintage stack of books. Thanks for sharing and hosting this challenge.💓💗😍
