They think they had u by the nuts but I'm glad u left. Oh yes I will mark it off of my 5 night stay with them that I was looking forward to spending with them
Thank you for being honest about the campground and not holding back!! I am going to be in the area on a west trip next September and am glad I can mark that one off my list of possible stays!
"Your kind"? That guy is not much of a human being. I'm sorry you were subjected to that ugliness. On a more positive note, I really loved the sights of Ouray, the waterfall was beautiful. I always enjoy your videos, you are such an interesting narrator. Your voice is very pleasant and relaxing to listen to. May all your future adventures be happy and joyful!
Robert, we have watched all your first videos (here in North Yorkshire Uk,) some of them twice, but they are all so awesome, thank you very much for putting them on You Tube, you have no idea how much we appreciate it, as we are both 80, and have not much else to do , so again, THANK YOU
hey Robert just turn off Broadcasting your SSID you can still use it without them knowing. If they had an advanced network their multiband routers would automatically deconflict the frequencies. Did he just *you people* - you? lol
This is an option, but be sure to forget the SSID on your phone / computer afterward. It's a bit of a security risk because when not connected your computer will continuously broadcast the SSID while searching for the hotspot.
My wife and I have been trying to catch up on all of your video's and saw this and I am truly sorry such a wonderful person as yourself would have to be subjected to this. You are a truly good man being the bigger man and not stooping to that low attitude. You have tremendous character. Will NEVER set foot in Durango!! Thank you Robert for all you do for us!! Also, Hi Illy!! Hi Mom!!, We Love You all!!
dear Robert, thank you very much for sharing this beautiful video with us. we thought we were in Switzerland. last month, I did a road trip of the great American west, and here you go with your beautiful videos, I'm starting to have nostalgia for this magnificent country USA
Robert, it's nice to see you in our back yard. We are a bit north of Ridgway. The interesting wagon you saw on Main St in Ouray is a shepherd's camper. They tend flocks of sheep in the high country above Ouray and Silverton during the summer - lonesome work but in a beautiful place. The shepherds are often Basque, Mexican, or South American folk. One of them is wintering a flock at my in-laws' ranch right now. Also, Cascade Falls has several more falls above the one you visited, but the trail to them is strenuous.
Yet another masterpiece from traveling Robert! Sadly my travel trailer is surrounded by a foot of snow but at least I have your videos to hold me by until Spring! Thank you for everything you do Robert
Robert... So good to see you have a pickup as a tow vehicle now and got rid of the Kia! Good luck with it!!! I used to pull my small travel trailer with a V6 GMC Sonoma - which was... OK. But once I got into an F250 with a Powerstroke diesel, I couldn't believe the difference!!! Totally carefree!
Robert, this is your best video yet! I seldom comment, but I have to say that your video was fantastic here. Thank you for all of the time you put into the editing. Safe travels!
I recently discovered Traveling Robert and his fabulous videos and music. Like him putting a sticker on each state he visits, I am going to post this comment on all the videos I watch! You da man, Robert!!
There is a common expression Four Corners residents use. " Durango would be awesome if it weren't for the people." In other words Durango is full of snobs. Next time you're in the area try Vallecito or Pagosa Springs and day trip to Durango if you must.
Wow. That campground. Again, I like watching these so I can learn from your experiences. Anyway ... this may be some of your best photography and editing. The highway run is fantastic, including the music ...piano was a great choice.
This was seriously one of my favorite vids of yours. The views. The roads. The infotainment of it all. The everything. My favorite videos of yours so far are this one, Death Valley and one of the 3+ hour To the West videos. The Arizona area as well as Utah seems to really stand out as places i want to get to explore, but you've definitely added Colorado as an absolute must! I have lower back problems where i have to use a walker, so walking is pretty taxing on my body, so (just a thought from someone who wants to travel and go sightseeing eventually) if at all possible, do you think you could squeak in some info in your videos about places that are ADA approved or wheelchair accessible? And i have been wanting to try that Vino Seco (spelling) cooking wine now. Everything you've made in videos always looks so good that a Traveling Robert cooking show isn't a bad idea as a separate video series.
@@TravelingRobert Yes, and it seems to have helped tremendously. Now they have great reviews dating back a little over 1 year. Still some problems with people booking through Air BnB and not getting what they're promised for cabin rentals, but that seems to be the only issue now.
Enjoyed the video. I stayed at the Durango North a few times with my family. We had taken the train a few times. Wifi wasn't around when we stayed at the Koa. I have also stayed at the former Duragnoa East koa a few times with family.
Very cool steam locomotive! Unfortunate situation at the KOA. It is important that you pass on this information to your viewers so that they are aware. Certainly a loss for KOA. Too bad for them. Sad that it set a temporarily tempered tone to your footage. Gorgeous waterfall. 👍 Loved the little towns. Look forward to your stopping in on some of these local establishments in future videos ☺
If you get a chance to go back, there is great boondocking just outside Silverton. You should stay and drive up some back roads to the ghost town of Animas Forks. So worth it!
OMG my stomach sank a few times watching you on that road with deep cliffs and no guard rails... Very pretty but with my fear of heights I'll never make that trip.. I can't imagine when it snows or black ice making that trip 😲.
Gooooood morning Robert! Thank you for the mid-week surprise. I hope that you have a great day. You and your family are in our prayers. Fly pelican, fly! 😎👍🌴 By the way, is your mailing address for packages still the same? 🤔😁
wow very nice scenery!! love this part of the country. been through colorado by train twice on the californai zephyer seen alot of this country side on the train
I’m sorry you had this experience in Durango. We live here and cannot believe some of the attitudes the locals have for tourists. Please come and visit us again, but stay somewhere better. I used to work for the Durango and silverton, it is the premier train to ride in the us. You can even take a yard tour and get up close and personal in the roundhouse.
Too bad you had to deal with those ignoramuses at that campground. It's an unfortunate reminder that a beautiful place doesn't necessary mean decent people
That was not nice what they did to you, Robert. I am glad you left. Miserable disgusting people. Changing the topic, the view is AMAZING...STUNNING! That million dollar highway it’s scary. The music in the background I LOVE IT!! Great footage. Thanks you for sharing!👍😘
I don't know about anyone else but I saw the campground setup and loved it immediately and thought it is a place I would use in the future (I mean - the chill out spot by the river looks like just what the doctor ordered!) But the odd behavior and treatment because you are using your phone as a hotspot is so old school. My mind is boggled and I would definitely find my own chill place upriver from them! Sheesh! How gorgeous is Colorado, though!
I've made the same trip from Taos to Durango (and returning) a couple of times and love that drive, too. I'm sorry about your experience at the Durango North KOA. I've always stayed at the KOA on US 160 just east of Durango and have never had that kind of response from the owners. It's a great campground with easy access into town. I hope it didn't sour you on staying in Durango again, because the city really is beautiful and a great place to explore. You did a beautiful job showing US 550. It's such and incredible highway!
That KOA won’t get my summer business. KOA headqrts needs to be contacted as this is poor representation of their brand. ? How did the campground know you had your “hotspot” going? Great trip Robert as always. The Million $ Hwy and Ouray just beautiful. Will drive it Northbound lane😊
Bypassed this KOA location because of their lack of customer service skills. There were plenty of other campgrounds in the area. Sorry for their lack of customer service towards you Robert.
i am not surprise by what happen to you at that KOA camp ground. I lived in Denver and ive met a lot of nasty folks traveling though this state. But i also met some really amazing folks who would recommenced some places to see and eat too. like you i spend time on the open road and i will remember not to stay at that KOA . thank for experience.
Did you ever make it to northern New England? I saw in Utube that you were going to Maine but I’m not sure you made it there. I live in Nashua New Hampshire and I have a lot time to view your videos and I find your music very relaxing. Keep up those great videos.
We used to camp there when I was a kid and it was our favorite campground anywhere. I heard it was wiped out by a big mudslide a few years ago and it took a long time to reopen. I’m sad that management isn’t interested in being in the hospitality industry. 😳 That definitely changes my future plans. I understand having rules to not encroach on other people’s enjoyment- like a noise curfew, or a safety rule like not keeping your trash out in bear country, but this makes no sense.
I went to the corporate site and it seems they have ALOT of disfunctional owner operators so the only way to get the point across would be NOT to deal with them Hurt them in the wallet.....
GOOOOD Morning Robert! Go figure, why people have the attitude and say stupid stuff???? If you can find out why they do let me know because after 69 years I haven't. Let's not let one person spoil an otherwise Beautiful scenic video. Before you mention it I had heard about the million dollar highway and it didn't disappoint! Thank you.
#276 Good morning, Robert. I had a run in with one KOA in Michigan and the manager said something similar which struck me as very odd? I'm Scottish-American. I did not stay there but found a Michigan Forest Campground that was pretty and quiet.
Another example of if anyone has room for Robert to park when in your area....sounds like he could use a leg up and avoid some of this type of hassle. KOA mess with our Robert and you mess with us.....a vlog is worth a million words.
How did they know you were using your mobile hot spot? I use mine all the time, I can’t imaging anyone would know unless they are monitoring and actively looking for new WiFi names appearing. Although they would also have to be driving around scanning for them. You can alway turn on the setting that doesn’t broadcast the Wi-Fi name, but you can still hook up to it if you know the exact settings.
Dang. I guess my kind wouldn't be welcome either. I am headed up that way next summer. Thanks for the review; now I know to skip that place. I am sorry you had to deal with that. That surely was a rotten apple.
For what is is worth I just sent the Durango KOA an email regarding your bad experience and asking for an explanation. Thank you for sharing the information about your experience there. I am sorry that happened to you.
If you paid by way of a credit card then simply call and dispute the charge as that would be your best option. Of course provide an explanation of how rudely you were treated, the inconvenience you encountered and the “forced upon” early departure. I’ll bet your credit card company will process a full refund, quite possibly for both days charges. 🌻
Looked at the Durango North / Riverside KOA rating on Google- they have had on review that had had over 60 people "thumbs up" willing to boycott their establishment based on how poorly they treated you (myself included). Hope they will reach out to you and give you your well deserved refund.
Sorry about your bad experience at the KOA, poor info infrastructure by their independent franchisees is their biggest weakness, imho. I've done contracted Wifi installs at outdoor commercial facilities over a half mile long with hundreds of loading bays and everything was done via wireless hand held units; the hardware is out there to easily do this. I believe most of the independent owners go with the cheapest bid they get and purchase limited amounts of bandwidth under the assumptions that campers either don't use it much or are accustomed to poor, limited wifi service at public campgrounds; it's high time they got into the 21st century and offer what their customers need.
This is shameful!!! KOA is getting so bad. I only have a select few that I will stay at. Great video Robert!!! I would have just gone ahead and used my personal wifi hotspot. The hells with them!!!
How good well does your mid size truck pull that camper in the Rocky Mountains? I have a Tacoma and I'm looking at a 4K pound camper and didn't know if will need to upgrade to a full size truck,
How would they even know you were using a personal hotspot? Were you broadcasting an SSID with your name? Anyway I'm glad you told them to pound sand and left, but personally I would have stayed and kept using my hotspot.
I’m sorry this happened to you! I sense you are a good soul. 😞💔 ...I must say though, these roads look scary...almost like what I see in cartoons. 😬 Be safe pls!!
Beautiful video. I guess the campground guy should have said "You can't have a WIFI hotspot because we don't have one either. If you give us any problems, the old man will get scared and call the cops." BTW: At 23:00, the road really appears to be a deathtrap coming the other way. At night or in bad weather, any car could easily just fly off into oblivion and no one would see it for 100 years.
when someone drops a " your kind" it's always 99% racist. i'm surprised you have not run into this more with all the rural white only towns you go to. i love your music and have enjoyed working out the chords on my piano.
We have stayed at a couple of KOAs and love them. This was quite disappointing to here but Hopefully that KOA will take this experience and learn from it. I also wasn't happy with the comment about You. Not clear on what their meaning was but Not Cool KOA people. 👎 Love your channel Robert. And the other places you visited there were Beautiful.
Wow Robert I'm so sorry to hear of the illogical and rude behavior toward you. Remember this Rob: Bob Marley said "the truth is in life most people are going to wrong or hurt you, you have to decide who is worth suffering for. Personally I've found most are not worth it at all.
Thanks for putting it out their on who has such a crazy policy. You probably saved someone else a like problem. I think I would have just turned off SSID and kept on using it and left them in the blind to just be obstinate. They really need to rethink their policies. You could file a complaint here consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us and let the FCC deal with it since its not a legal policy.
Sorry about that terrible KOA experience. Glad you called them out. I believe if you ho onto the KOA web site and complain they might be able to compensate for your bad experience. Sounds like the 70 year old papa needs to find a real job.
There are phone apps that show the WIFI channel conflicts they could of showing that too you but I doubt it would of cause problem with other customers. Sounds like they where rude to you and it was all about the money and less about customer service. FCC has fined up to $750,000 on hotels that use frequency blockers.
I’m surprised that you have been so amicable about it, you are generous to a fault! Racism and illegal blocking your use of the internet. Please let KOA know about it! Please! For any other person who may be affected. From France with respect! I am a subscriber but for some reason it has been blocked. So I’ve subscribed again!
