Now there are several channels making LRDI videos for CAT, they pick a set and just solve it under 10-12 mins without discussing the thought process. Gaurav Sir and Hunny Sir are the only teacher who explains the set line by line and they teach you how to approach the set rather than just solving the set directly to get views and likes.

some of the take aways for me 1. find out how to tabulate the variables. Put some thought. 2. start with the extreme scenarios so that we can play with minimum number of cases 3. identify the variable with most number of constraints and double down on this variable. 4. don't shy away from thinking out loud and also think exhaustively. personally I really the liked the way you thought through all the cases and then eliminated most of the cases. It shows great deal of clarity on your end which I hope to acquire as the best of my abilities.

this becomes even easier if you fix the ranks in the column of table and then fill names inside the table

Once you deduce that Shane's total will be 12 and Markel total cannot odd no. ; So the common difference will be of 2 only i.e 8,10,12,14,16 respectively . This deduction will just save your time and can proceed with the arrangements . Thanks Sir for this nice question.

very good problem!! repeat. AP in that ORDER is critical point -> now make two different matrices , so kim wilk be max 16 , so common diff = 1/2(max);critical point: move to max and minimum note both have constraints so enumerate the cases. Next part is more critical of eliminating sub cases.

I started with markel , plotted all the six possibilities with him (2,3), (2,4), (2,5), (3,4), (3,5) , (4,5). As a=12 and Kaizen can take maximum value of 16 , 5 out of 6 cases gets eliminated . only case remaning with markel will be a+d=14 ----> (2,5) that is (8,10,12,14,16).

although it took me a little while and i used certain different things like sum of ap and i got 2 aps ........regardless i was able to do this question in first go. should i be happy? hehe and i really appreciate your manner of explaining its unique and i loved it :)

do you recommend us to attempt this one in the exam?...........or just use it to learn how to make cases, which might help in other questions.

Great concept . But one question , these type of questions we MUST leave in CAT right sir ?

In the beginning, we don't need to make cases as we know that Markel ranks consist of only 2 different values. if you take any two numbers. for eg: 3+3+2+2= 10, 3+3+1+1=8. The sum will always be even. So, the total of Markel's ranks can't be 13, it has to be 12.

I got it right as of luck ...I started with 8 10 12 14 16 ....and got the answers.....I was not able to recognise the other combination..... amazing explanation

Sir,while solving I got stuck in point 4 which says no 2 friends got same rank in any game,which can have two meanings.....It means two friends cannot have same rank in any game(example. kim and kaizan cannot get rank 1 and rank 4 simutaneously in any game ).......as well as no person got same rank in any game(example kim and kaizan cannot get rank 1 ).and you have used the second approach....Therefore i think statement 4 is ambiguous

You have explained very well, but do you think that a candidate should attempt this question in the examination hall where only 40 minutes will be provided to you and you will have to solve 4-5 LRDI sets!!!! These types of questions are to increase critical reasoning, but we should definitely avoid these types of questions in the exam.

sir initially hum ese bhi toh cases ko eliminate kr skte hai na ki MARKEL me sirf 2 hi ranks ke number use honge toh uske ranks ka sum even hi ayega
