Love the interview, I think that they dont go advertising how much wrestling they do is just clever. If your opponent thinks that wrestling is your weakness and then they get in the ring and its not, then you have just gained a huge strategic and mental advantage against your opponent.

The only additional thing I've noticed is there could be more focus on counter-takedown striking, drilling well-timed knees for takedown attempts, keeping distance with a persistent lead jab, low leg kicks that don't compromise balance saving high kicks for later rounds, or late in rounds where the risk reward is greater because being taken down is not good, but late in a round it's unlikely to result in a submission or getting mauled, and hitting the target could put the lights out

If your a great striker you need great takedown defence and manage your range and distance to null the takedown. If your a great wrestler you need to telegraph your striking to set up a takedown. The beautiful sweet science and human chess game that is MMA

NONE of the current coaches who work with all of the elite fighters at the UFC is an elite coach; few to none of them were elite fighters, either, when they're fighting, 10 to 20 years ago. You don't expect that, when the sport got started back in the 1990s to early 2000s. The Dagestanis ---- Khabib, Islam, Umar, Usman et al ---- came to AKA not because Javier Mendez was or is a brilliant fighter or coache... rather, they came to AKA because Mendez has been able to BUILD, over the years, a world class gym staffed with world class, current fighters and technical coaches... Ditto for Bareman in New Zealand... Almost all of the coaches who're holding pads for elite fighters are out of shape, old, slow, and unable to really do technical things. But elite fighters stay with them because they go back many years. It's those coaches who took a chance on their current fighters, back then when they're just journeyman... and so there's trust there. And BOTH coaches and fighters know they could get SPECIALIZED coaching, by brining in those younger coaches, for specific training camps. That's how things work. The old head coaches are mostly just figureheads and scouts for technical coaches....

@@kiabtoomlauj6249not true. The coach is never as good as the player and most good fighters don’t understand the game
