I have a question regarding using oil paints. I'm just beginning work on my second figure, a citadel Ungor, and one of the problems I'm having is that the makeup sponge takes off almost all the paint I applied to the model, leaving just a filter over my zenithal primer. It's as if I dipped the model in a layer of linseed oil mostly. There's barely a hint of any pigment on the model afterwards. I'm using a combination of Michael Harding oil paints and Schminke (Norma and Mussini) for my main color pallet, and I'm experimenting with the Abtielung flesh tones set. Is there a certain amount of time I need to let the oils set before using the makeup sponge?

Tried to recreate this, went through rounds of despair and heartbreak, resorted to the brush many times, but just about getting to the point I'm happy. Took way longer than 4 hours, but was a useful teaching experience

I love seeing these videos but at the same time they straight up make me feel bad about myself. I've tried for years to get a decent standard minis as painting is the main part of the hobby for me and others can just do leagues better quality than I can in 1/50th of the time. It's insane.

I love the aesthetics of the Delaque. They can be dark agents of death, or even sterile doctors of macabre. They are the faceless unmasked and the stuff of nightmares. The need a few solid hours of Marco's NJM treatment.

I vote Escher (mainly because I'm working on an Oldhammer gang of them I bought back in 96). Your videos never disappoint; they're the highlight of my painting week!

I second this. Escher may also be one of the most complex gangs from a painting perspective, as they consist of very small elements right next to each other and high chromatic contrast with their black leathers, metals, bright hair, armour plates, and skin.

Flesh color is not just for flesh! I've always used an off-white for highlighting but I like the warmth of the flesh color. Going to try that!

I really enjoy these speed painting videos Marco! Do you mostly use a 0.2 mm needle when doing this kind of speed painting with airbrush? I'd really like to start using my airbrush more for this kind of thing, but as far as I remember, my needle is 0.4 mm. Is this too big?

Thanks a million man! Yep, I always use a 0.2. 0.4 is for sure too big for this kind of applications but with a good control on the trigger you can do a lot with a 0.3

@@MarcoFrisoniNJM I just remembered that my airbrush, the infinity CR +, actually has an extra needle included in the set! The extra needle is 0.15 mm. Is that too small for this kind of thing? I have actually never tried it, since I was always told that the 0.4 mm needle was the best for all round applications. I don't have that much time for painting, so I'm trying to find a work flow that works well and is quick, without lowering the quality too much. This style is perfect. I love inks, washes and so on!

Love that you are doing Necromunda. It is by far my favourite setting in the 40k universe right now for all its crazy aesthetics. I started attempting to do more airbrush work recently after watching a few of your videos. Super inspiring! Quick question on this video. You did a varnish before your brushwork which I assume is to help protect the acrylic inks as they reactivate and come off easily. What about the oil washes though? They wouldn't be dry by then, right?

Hi Marco! Cool video about speed painting but keeping tons of details, speaking of which, close to the end around minute 22:30, you say about references to paint textures on "flat minies". In your experience do you keep reference material open close by? like on a monitor or a book or an illustration from a comic? Or after years of experience, you go by memory 🤣. Keep up the hard work and looking forward to seeing you in person in another of your classes in Dublin or maybe in another city in the south of Ireland! 😁

Great content, as usual, Marco! Quick question about your HP-BH: Do you use the mac valve often, or at all in your workflow? I thought of eventually branching out a little from my beloved H&S Evolution and saw that the Iwata Hi Line is almost identical to the High Performance line, with the mac valve being the only major difference. I'm just wondering if it's worth the price difference. Thanks!

Looking great, as usual, but the question is; how long do you let the oil wash set, on average, before sponging it up? I have difficulty wondering how long to let them set so I can wipe them up without removing any of the paint beneath.

Hi Marco, quick question for you, i hope you're feeling generous with giving tips today 😁 I've used Liquitex white ink to build a dramatic zenithal highlight over black and then used red contrast paint over it but the contrast melts away the white ink leaving ugly "stripes". I tried to follow you steps from your Cursed City skeletons video. Help? Thanks in advance!!

Is there an equivalent to mineral spirit for acrylic paints to get it thin without loosing the binding properties? Too much water can cause paint to flake off. Maybe alcohol, but that would potentially strip the paint from other layers? Can you use airbrush thinner on acrylic and then paint normally?
