"Djibouti hosts military bases belonging to Germany, Spain, Italy, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, and Saudi Arabia at a very little distance from one another. Djibouti sea a choke point with load of problem there US, Russia, China basically every country that have large trade ship passing will have some military there. To those citing international waters, you are required to notify and get permission from the country in close proximity when you are NOT a civilian vessel/aircraft. Miss Dumy Pakli obviously left out details that if any military aircraft comes close to another country without said notification and permission, it will be perceived as provocation under international law. International waters only applies to non-militatry aircraft/vessels, so citing it justification is legally incorrect

Yellow Sea area has two exclusive economic zones, one belong to China and other North Korea. Australia military ship and helicopter can not enter EEZ without prior permission from country that own the EEZ. Australia may be invited by South Korea but they can't go into EEZ of China or North Korean EEZ without permission.

They conduct those regular checks becoz North Korea a lunatic communist ally of China has been threatening to nuke Japan, South Korea and Australia. @mbpaintballa For one, the chopper was in China's Air Defense Identification Zone. These zones aim to provide a country with warning should hostile aircraft approach its airspace. When someone flies a military chopper in your ADIZ, it is considered an act of provocation. Both Japan and Taiwan scrambled military jets when China flew in their ADIZ. What good for the goose is good for the gander.

This "Game Playing" by foreign forces was going on when I was in the Australian Navy from 1964 to 1984. I served on ships where our Captain pushed the boundaries as well.
