High School Boys Honor Retiring Teacher With Moving Haka 

This teacher must of been f*cking legendary

Imagine your a foreign exchange student and this is your first day in there.

I can only imagine the sense of pride this teacher must have felt for his students.

This teacher retired and went straight into battle.

Meanwhile, my school could barely get people to clap in their own graduations.

If you get this kind of farewell, you know you did a good job. You prepared the boys well enough so they can stand on their own legs. Father skills 10/10.

This is one of the most amazing Haka's I've had the privilege of seeing. I'm speechless. The power, respect and focus is unbelievable to witness. I'm in total awe. Their teacher must have been so very special. Just wonderful.

I’m a nobody white guy but I’ve watched Hakas for years on RU-vid. Something about the haka I’ve enjoyed for years is the people doing it are obviously New Zealand teams schools or similar cultures. But there’s always people that are clearly not of NZ decent or heritage. Those who don’t look native aren’t in the back or sitting quietly. They’re in it, front line middle line doesn’t matter. Makes me feel like “ hey you’re wearing our uniform/ colors you’re one of us.” Also the way they calmly and quietly sat down. Add an M4 or axe in their hand and my grown as is running as fast as I can. That is probably one of life’s greatest moments for the teacher. Much respect

As an Ex old boy of PNBHS they are awesome. You want to hear the end of year ones at prizegiving night. That is next level. 1800 odd boys in an echoing arena is even more goosebump causing. Boys used to hate the structure but it also made us responsible and respectful and that when a staff member said jump you did or you would deal with the consequences. You know when you went to the school what the expectations were. Ask alot of the boys in the senior years and we have alot of respect and Mana for the staff. Im about 12 years out of it and I have kept in touch with staff, and even had a job with a board member, and things that I learnt from the school has been with me ever since. I was there under Tim OConnor’s rule who is now Auckland Grammar’s Rector and that is running the same level. You lay out the expectations and the boys follow. PNBHS has a huge proud military history and I think it’s because the military runs similarly to the school also with being home to some of the biggest defence bases helps. Never once since being there have I thought it was a crap place, sure im one who hated school because its not my scene, but the place was definitely a gem. You would never see what happened to David Seymour at Freyberg happen at PNBHS. Weak leadership/discipline grows weak people, strong leadership/discipline builds strong people and minds.

As a retired public high school teacher, your students are a reflection of their appreciation and time you spent with them! When ever I see my ex students they always thank me for being a teacher who they will never forget about how much they learned , and the fun they had! I am a man from Germany. Many thousands of miles away. My culture is completely different. But I understood one thing... If someone has earned that much respect, they must have been an incredibly good person, a great role model and an incredibly good teacher. My great respect to everyone who gave him this honor and my greatest respect to the teacher.

There's nothing more uplifting at seeing so many show unfailing respect to their mentor, and teacher. High praise indeed.

I remember crying when I first watched this video. I was and still am amazed by the immense power in the message they convey to that teacher. This is one of the highest forms of honor I ever saw someone give someone else.

A few years ago I was invited to witness haka in New Zealand. The energy in the room was astounding! It was a very powerful ceremony.

I never fail to get a lump in my throat when I see these Haka's performed in honour of people ..

although I know nothing about haka, recently discovered it and it really has something spiritual to it. in every video I’ve felt the raw emotions and unity. Being part of one must be a feeling like no other.
