_after the video_ "Yes, that was me. I served 5 years in juvenile detention for that assault. After years of anger management, counseling and meditation I decided to head in another direction. Today, I'm here to show you the power of Scientology. " 😂
I don't think he's a "take a look in the mirror and reflect on my life type of guy". Whatever happens to him he'll think it unfair and undeserved without ever realizing the biggest hurdle to him having a decent life is himself.
He has a long way to go to say life is fucked. This isn't close to a fuck your life up mistake. Many guys like this grow up and learn to handle their shit just fine without much more than a few medium disciplines for mistakes like this, probation, therapy, whatever.
I disagree. He will probably play a year or two in junior college. Then, a DI coach with a savior complex will recruit him and give him a scholarship. He will say it's because he is a big fan of "turn around stories". He may even play in a bowl game sponsored by an autoparts store.
Joe Mixon, and he was caught on camera hitting a women, now he one of the top running backs in the NFL,sad but athletes get passes that regular ppl don't.
@@richardburns9772 when you put it into many life situations, it does. Like the kid in the video; due to him not being able to hold in his anger, now his entire football career is gone just because of that one moment.
He was arrested and charge with assault. he was released Friday evening after posting bail. His athletic career is finished, he will never participate in sports in high school or college.
lol Cops kill ppl and move on to another city and do the same and yall are concerned about if this kid ever plays football again?? I'm sure he'll be able to play again before he turns 21.
@@CEOGaming82 ummm ok?? They shouldn't be allowed to do that either. They arent mutually exclusive. Just because we condone this shit doesn't mean any of us condone repeated abuse by police officers....jesus
@Walleye Wade I'm telling ya.. That's a football state. If you can toss the pigskin, run it, tackle, catch..even kick..you're automatically on the team
So apparently for anyone wondering, this is the first time in a long time that the bobcats have been to the playoffs and this kid singlehandedly ruined it for his whole team (also i think he got assault charges)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who broke tree branches against a trunk to let out his youthful rage, Jomboy is always on point with his throwaway lines.
@@Blabsjsjwns : Yikes, is he normally that big of an asshole? Dude seems to have some serious issues going on in his life to pull a dumb stunt like that.
Update: his entire athletic career with his school is over; banned from all sports. He was apparently a very good wrestler too. Hope it was worth it. Should have exercised his brain more
You know what happens when these guys lose their athletic scholarships, he'll go the Greg Hardy route and become an MMA fighter lol. That's what all washed up, or excommunicated football players do.
Since you're from there, Is it true that this kid had a problem when he was on the soccer team too? Read it on another site in a comment someone made. When you have a chance please let me know.... Thanks
The amount of times I’ve heard this joke told is astounding, the only thing more astounding is the people telling it think they are original and witty.
As a ref for high school/local colleges I can proudly say my teams just barrage me with some of the greatest vocal stingers I have ever heard. Thanks to the players for never blasting me into the turf.
Two years later and we're still hanging? Nothing identifying, of course, but there have to be some clean(ish) verbal bats to the face you can mention. Purdy pwease?
The worst part is this wasn't heat of the moment. the kid had plenty of time to collect himself and calm down but still chose to do something violently stupid.
You have to wonder, given this entirely selfish act, whether being a star in three sports had gotten him star treatment in school, and given him a sense of entitlement.
@@puttervids472 they cancelled the playoffs for a team full of minorities over a simple body check on the football field. only white people would do that. they love to be power trippin on minorities like that. can't let them get away with that racist bullshit! FIGHT BACK!!!
Sad to see someone throw away their college/professional opportunities in a few seconds. Hope the kid gets some punishment but also some help Edit: I see some people in the replies thinking that I am justifying 88’s actions. I am absolutely not, he needs to be kicked off the team and possibly arrested and I hope that the referee is ok. What he did was awful. I was simply saying that it’s sad how a few seconds of anger can ruin your life.
He will play, many pro football players have done much worse. If he’s got the talent they’ll get him a great PR team. In a few years he could be gods gift to the game and a pillar of the community. You know how it works
"come on dude, you can't be tackling refs. They're old men. They're old men. That guys bald. You can't tackle a guy with a receding hairline if you're a young kid."
Me too, I was thinking some kid got confused or maybe tripped into a ref. It wasn't until 88 was on the sideline that I started thinking it was going to be an actual beating.
This was playoffs bro, and he’s a senior so this is the last High school sports game he will ever play. Probably his last competitive football game ever unless he walks on for some “Last Chance U” jv college team. Not to mention this will probably result in a felony because of the refs concussion, the fact that he still had his gear on (possibly seen as weapons) and the player will be charged as an adult rather than a minor
He’s really good as well, he had 104 tackles and 8 sacks in four games. He was an all-area wrestler and dpoy for district last year. Literally threw everything away
@@marcel9836 he's not in jail. That said, I thought he was the state defensive player of the year which would make him a 5 star recruit but he was the district defensive player of the year which could be anything defending on the district. If he is a 5* he's still going somewhere.
@@justinkongol0 If he is that good, then they find a way to bring him back. He made a therapy, the ref also made mistakes, he was unprofessional, the guy cries a river and promise to be a better person, he had a tough years and was not himself...etc. pp.
I don't think the cameraman was expecting something so egregious & colossally stupid on that player's part. That's some next-level crazy that couldn't have been predicted.
Damn, I would see this guy in the hallways. He was also a really good wrestler. He brought recognition to our school, but for all the wrong reasons. Smh
What makes this more disturbing is the fact that the guy had time to cool down before he did what he did. However he seemed to get angrier as he was walked back to the sidelines.
Cool down? He was ejected from the game. That walk 100% made him angrier and justifiably so. Doesn’t excuse what he did, but come on man, use your head.
I referee soccer and I definitely don't do it for the money. It's good money for teenagers who are mostly assistant referees, though. As the (center) referee, I get ~$50-60 per match depending on the age level where the ARs get $20-30. I try to set expectations for the parents before the match by telling them that nothing that happens on the pitch today will affect anyone's spot on the national team.
I played baseball and football through college and basketball through high school...never met an honest ump or ref. A lot of these guys do in fact do it for money, because they can't get other jobs. That and some of them really get off on the authority.
@@haydencook682 I was a high school basketball and football official in Florida and North Carolina for 10 years of each. Virtually of the officials I worked with were completely honest and wanted to be unnoticed as much as possible. There were varying levels of competence, as in any industry. But generally the less competent officials were assigned to smaller schools, while the big schools were officiated by more experienced, proven professionals. None of them can be doing it for the money, since there's just not that much money to be had. Drive an hour and a half to get to the school, work for an hour of pregame, two hours for the game itself, shower and drive home after, so what, 6-7 hours of time? And make $70 for a varsity game, which gets played once per week. Do the same for JV on Thursdays, but get paid $50 instead. That's not the kind of money that will entice dishonest people.
@@haydencook682 you sound bitter...you must have been on the bench most of the time...alot of these refs are former players that enjoy the sport and don't mind helping a new generation learn and play the sport the right way..trust me 20 to 50 bucks a game isn't "doing it for the money"...sorry you sucked and turned bitter
Assault is a grown man's mistake. Something he will find out about if the ref has any permanent injury which would make this felony assault and at 17, he would likely be charged as an adult.
As a Senior who was that Texas districts defensive player of the year? He probably had scholarships from all over the county. This will Prolly result in a felon also so His only hope now is to walk on for some desperate Last Chance U jv college
@@ncdozer3103 A defensive player of the year in Texas. Id bet he had some from decent schools. He was also an All American wrestler who definitely had offers from top schools for wrestling. He was one of the favorites to win the state title in wrestling next year
Hes from my south texas area....district defensive player of the year is great for our area but the districts here are not at the same caliber of the san antonio, austin, and houston areas. He would be honorable mentions in their districts. Still, he fucked up. And now he left a bad mark on himself, his family, his school, and his city.
@@rickyvallejo3269 he’s a top 5 football player at your school? What a cookie? Can’t even too smart if you can’t even help resist to slamming an old ref. But ya he’s smart.
How dare you question his intelligence? What actions have you witnessed that would lead you to such a conclusion?........Video evidence, you say? That stuff never sticks! Could have been anyone in that jersey....Anyway, he's actually a member of Mensa! One of the brightest young minds this country has to offer. I have first hand knowledge of his academic abilities because I went to clown college with his sister's hamster.
You can be smart and still have fits of rage that make you look like an idiot and/or have problems keeping emotions in check. I have no idea if he's dumb or not but one incident of an outburst/breakdown isn't really a fair assessment IMO. That being said, the actions were completely uncalled for and he deserves whatever punishment he gets for it.
Some years ago I had a girlfriend who said that boys/men between the ages of 15 -23 have problems controlling their testosterone-driven emotions and should be kept away from society until full adulthood had been reached. She wasn't entirely serious but she wasn't entirely joking, either.
I’m from near where this happened the whole team “blue” Edinburg season has ended. None of the team will be continuing their season due to 88 the school board deemed.
Yes, he really needed to be held for a psychological evaluation & his blood checked for steroids. His bail should have been suspended until the evaluations came back.
The ref never made any bad calls tho. The kid clearly had anger issues as he had been throwing punches before. That’s why he was ejected. The refs did nothing wrong
This happened at an away game maybe 25 years ago. We came back from 21 at the half. The back at the time went about 15 yards blind side on a ref....the ref suffered a concussion, herniated spine and broken wrist. The visitors (our group) had to be escorted off the field. Fans were throwing rocks and it’s still a bitter rivalry to this day. The back from my understanding was banned from ever playing any sport again and his name was well known throughout town. I want to say it was in 97 maybe ft. Wingate NM. Wingate vs. Crownpoint. Crownpoint came back 24-21 and the game was forfeited before the 4th.
@@Tyrantofthewind If this were a college game, I'd agree. But it is high school. He'll be cut from all his teams, if not outright expelled. Maybe he goes to a JC, but it is unlikely we'll ever hear about him again.
@@tervalas The guy is carrying his high school in these sports. They need him more than he needs them. "Duron was the school district’s Defensive Player of the Year last season, and the school team’s kicker, punter and star wrestler, the newspaper reported."
Jomboy, you HAVE to do a breakdown of the two players who hit the ref from John Jay High School in San Antonio. The coach told them to do it. One knocked him down, then the other came in and slammed into him in the ground. All three got arrested. Then you also need to do a breakdown of the kid's weird mullet like haircut when he went to court. It was way worse than this one.
He was also kicked out of a soccer game for hitting an official. He was suspended from all school sports by the conference. He was also arrested and charged.
I’ve went toes with some of my teammates for lesser actions. I would have snaked this kid in the locker room for ruining the teams season and potentially other players chances of scholarships
I believe the current thinking is that the two best options for dealing with anger are either to have a constructive outlet that both allows for physical release but is also useful and appropriate (think chopping wood or scrubbing dirty floors) or to learn methods of controlling and withholding anger (called "bottling up"). Both are better than making a habit of pointlessly giving physical (punching bag, breaking things) or verbal (yelling, swearing over and over) vent to the rage, which is what I associate with "rage rooms". That kind of behavior reinforces bad responses to anger, especially among children. It also is unlikely to be available in many adult situations. The kid here likely couldn't just find a rage room in this circumstance, even if he wanted to.
Why would you assume he’d become a criminal or that his life is based on playing sports? I’d love to know where you gathered all of that information...
Three weeks after this incident, he gets on TV and apologizes for the hit on the ref. That's not an apology. That's a calculated attempt to not loose a football scholarship and/or some breaks from the criminal trial he is about to go thru.
“You can’t tackle a guy with a receding hairline!” Bro my hairline started receding when I was 16 or 17, I would’ve made it to the NFL if what you said was true 😂
It's one thing to say the punishment it too tough, but there is no way to argue the team shouldn't be punished for the actions of one player. Every single penalty, including targeting, results in a team punishment. Team wins and loses as a unit. Tough life lesson for not taking care of business.
@@st0pth3h8 Penn State was charged for the actions of Jerry Sandusky. I have no issue with entire high school being punished for the actions of this 18 year old punk.
@@ljlintner He has a long history of this. What the above poster said makes a lot of sense. If the coaching staff is knowingly allowing this time bomb to to tick they gotta be punished. Its just the way it is. They can't risk the team trying to get payback against the refs and they need to set an example. This has happened before in Texas and the kids lied and claimed racism to trying and cover there ass and it turns out the coach put the hit on the ref and the kids obliged. Those kids also had a long history of issues on the field.
this was in Texas I believe, yeah, it was a big story here. kid is finished and sports career ended. he's got other issues going on which is why he'd never make college
