High Sec Mining Uncovered | How To: EVE Online Mini Mining Series 

The problem with your testing of the barges, you dont set them up to mine as similarly as possible. The Retriever only had 1 mining laser upgrade, the Covetor had 3 and the Procurer had 2. If you're going to compare them... just rely on pure ship bonuses or else make sure all ships have the same number of "mining affecting items" such as upgrade lasers and/or drones. You dint use drones with the first barge but did with the 2nd & 3rd; totally skews the results. And... dont put the venture in there, it doesnt compare to the barges as youre only using mining lasers and not strip miners. Bad comparison all around. Oh, and in the end, regardless what the estimator says, you havent made any ISK until you sell your ore ;)

Anyone remember sticking a mining laser on an iteron 5 and leaving it mining all night?

Note for any alpha miners, you don't have to buy omega to get Procurer or Retriever yield, many battlecruisers can be fit with mining lasers and yield about 1500-1700m3 per 180 seconds. The price range for a Battlecruiser is 11-80mill, I recommend buying a Miasmos as well (a small alpha ore hauler) park it in belt and dumb the ore u mine into the Miasmos so you don't have to warp around as much.

For the barges, here's how I can summarize them: Retriever: The old faithful mining barge. Cheap and effective... but that's about it. Just realize you are pretty much wearing a 'Gank me' sign when in it. Procurer: Can actually survive more than an insult. Heftier and built to take abuse. A nice pick if you are slow on alt-tabbing back from Netflix. Covetor: Wanna see me fill up my ore hold? Wanna see me do it again? That's basically what all Covetor pilots feel like when operating this barge. As weak as a Retriever, but with a somehow smaller ore hold than the Procurer. Unless you are mining right outside a station and have a second monitor, this is not a Solo ship. That and the ship costs more because of this (groups buy them in droves). Overall: Retriever for when I'm wormholing, since I can mine more with less trips. Plus, they're cheap enough if I lose one, it's not a big deal. Procurer is a nicer ship for more AFK mining, but WHing can be a change in tactic. If anything, it just gives you more time to react, but that's about it. Just have some EM drones on standby and make use of that expanded dronebay. However, when mining, it will fill up faster, so that means more trips to and from a spot. Covetor: No. I have one, but for special moments when it's actually useful. Otherwise, I tend to use something else. While not a barge, I honestly consider it more Solo friendly for when you REALLY want to give zero darns about what is going on: Porpoise. Cheap, large ore bay, can make friends very quickly, and that default align time is almost frigate level. It may have trash low slots, but the highs and mids are very respectable, as is the capacitor on it. Yes, you are at the mercy of your mining drones doing their job, which isn't even as fast as a basic Retriever build (714.65 m3 with Mining Drone Spec V vs 1042.22 m3 with Mining V and Mining Barge V with 2x Strip Miner I), the simple fact I don't have to move around as much (the drones can be pretty fast) or dock as often (again, 50k with NO bonuses is nothing to scoff at) can sometimes be worth the trade-off.

Tech 2 Strip Miners actually has less yield than the Tech 1 variant unless you have mining crystals in. That is why some high level miners only use tech 1 level strip miners, so they don't need to worry about crystals.

Thinking of trying Eve. As i am working from home a couple days a week, i could run the game mostly AFK on my personal computer (next to work computer). Would highsec mining be an option to get some isk during the work day? What setting would be appropriate for a new player (likely alpha until i get a better grasp of the game)? And are you not immune to ganking in highsec?

Covetors are for jetcan mining, which requires a dedicated hauler. In that setup they are AMAZING. In the process of training up a mini-fleet of 4-6 alts. Plan is to give each of them a Covetor and the hauler/miner will jump into a Miasmos once the jetcans start piling up. Eventually I'll move my main into an Orca. I play Eve wrong, but I enjoy myself doing it. :)

lol try leaving your mining barge afk for an hour and come back to find about 2 cycles in your ore hold because the roids in high sec barely contain more than 2 cycles

I know the video is old but holy shit you're very good at this. I like how you shown us all 3 of the barges instead of saying; "Ok so guys this ship is the best" you instead show us all 3 and explain ups and downs in real time :) Very good dude, keep this going because this is exactly what we need to show new players the game isn't that scary with all the weird shit in the UI etc.

I think you need to do an updated video on this if you haven't already. My opinion, and something I started doing earlier this year is,Orca mining. You can pull in very slightly more or per cycle than a T2 fit Skiff and with the massive ore hold and significant tank, makes it the prime choice for solo afk miners. If you were to get ganked, between insurance, loot and 25-35 mill per kill right,you'd actually make a profit.

You really want to have 1 drone one 1 ore of their own. This works usually better, cause you don't have bad luck cycles on 5 drones at the same time. And it's a bit more passive, which for mining is what we like ;)

RE: 8:20 "I don't know how the asteroids work" for anyone wondering: 1) Asteroids have a set amount of m3 of material in them. You can check how much each one has using a Survey Scanner. 2) Your mining lasers and mining drones both have a set amount of m3 they will harvest per 'cycle'. A cycle could be anything from a couple of seconds to 3 whole minutes depending on what you're mining with. 3) When a cycle completes, and only at that point (or when you deactivate the miner), do you collect the m3 of material mined. This amount is subtracted from the asteroid's total remaining m3. 4) Thus, if you have an asteroid that has 300 m3 remaining, and you sit there with your Strip Miners, which churn out 1000 m3 per cycle, you are wasting 2/3rds of your cycle, as you will only mine up to the remaining 300 m3, and you will only get it once the cycle completes. 5) Therefore, turn off your Strip Miners (or whatever you're mining with) early to get higher yields!

with triglav hunting in the belt....mining are not afk session anymore....or do you have anything for this problem?

Why use T2 Strip miners without crystals, T1 become more efficient than them like this?

Using T1 barges, a catalyst at 0M will derstroy you before concord, unless its a .7+ system...You really should recommend to new players to have a disposable mindset to the retriever.Covetor. Also the retriever is sadly an AFK machine. I would recommend if their in a HS system with frequent pirates(player not NPC) use the procurer. The procurer IS THE TANK of the t1 fleet. The Retriever/Covetor are basically tissue paper. But you should really have them aim for T2 ASAP. Skiff/Mack or even the Porpoise. With decent skills a porpoise and skiff will mine the same. Albeit you have to micromanage more with drones/porpoise.

for Hi-Sec, is it better to mine with a Hulk or Orca (mining drones)? I'm thinking of getting back into the game and always enjoyed mining.

I always grab golden omber if around, nice amount of Tri (880) from that, and Tri is the most needed mineral when building stuffz. Mackinaw is 35000m3, Porpoise 57500, and you can fill up the other holds to for another 5k and 500m3

the fundamental problem with the covetor is it is a piece of glass. Anything below 0.7 you should have some survivability from suicide's.

honestly, i haven't watched the whole vid atm, but if you want to mine with a barge, use a procurer, the other two are traps. Procurer can tank a SHIT LOAD of damage, and if properly fit, would be a pain for CODE to suicide gank for profit.

Not bad per hour in the venture, mining seems like a good way to semi afk grind some isk as a alpha for sure.

I Started playing EVE back in 2015. I managed to grind enough missions to get a Covetor and finally mine a decent amount. I flew out for my first ever mine in a Cov and then lost my ship as I was set upon by a group called CODE. I was baffled at how and why I had died in a high security area but I now know who CODE are. They spoke to me for a bit in local and after they had figured out how new I was several of them sent me a few mill to reimburse my Cov but told me it's better to leave high sec and they wont do it for me again. So I carried on mining in high sec for about half of a year at which point I bought a Mach battleship and then a few days later I fell asleep in it while running a level 4 and lost it haha. Then I moved to null sec and now I have almost as many clones as fingers and high sec makes me depressed.

To transport ore remember that you can compress all types of ores except moon ore at its designed refineries.. also use a ship like the miasmos that has a ore hold to transport it to jita

mixing drones? seems counter productive. you maxed your fit on the Covetor -- 3 upgrades and mining drones -- where you tried increasing defense on the Retriever .. and with a Procurer i would field 5 Hobgoblins and 5 Miners .. pop the miners on a 3d asteroid until you get a rat spawn -- though you can actually ignore them if you like I also have never fit a prop mod on a mining ship .. survey scanner is more practical

some can explain this game to me? all i got are emotional answers... So you mine when afk? Or how do you have fun ... Maybe you get 2 chars ... 1 will do mining and other exploration? I dont want to put the game down... maybe i am missing on something....

I had a dream once. Me, operating Rorqual (my God, it's so HUGE), boosting some Ventures, mostly T1 and a bit of T2 mining ships in C2 space. Then Sleepers attacked. Luckily, we had a contract with mercs who guarded us and dealt with them. This felt so real...a pity i had to wake up :(

7:45 oh... You should look out for Survey Scanner, you might understand what is going on here. It seems a bit odd to do some sort of "mining guide" in this circumstance. In all due respect, maybe learn the basics first.

I don't mean to bash your findings or your video mate but I mine at least 8mill per hour with a retriever. If you have a solidly trained mining toon and use t2 crystals your yield is significantly greater.

This test cant be used for anything... You cant used mining upgrades on some and almost none of other. Also you are using mining drones on one ship, but not the other... And btw.. t1 strip miners is better the t2 without crystals..

Big tip for new players train to use a machariel n run incursions. Once u do one u can do another.warp to me accepts new players but you need to train to it n it will pay for it self 100m n hour plus

load the ore into a citadel, compress the ore, and sell it, the return is higher.

i still think if you want to jetcan mine, put an MTU out close to hauler/orca. That way the miners can be spread out in the belt, making it harder for gangers and easier for haulers and a safer operation. also, stay alligned rather than orbiting a roid, I have killed SOOOOO many WT miners because they were not aligned.

Only mining in HS wich give you the most money is ice mining. Everyone needs fuel out of the ice you mine.

Mining is boring but necessary for some people. Time is money though, so if you think it is worth the boredom, go for it.

I thought sitting in fw plexes was boring... just for comparison you can get 100k lp/hour doing gallente fw in a frigate - thats 100m isk/h easily. I'd pod myself if I spent an hour getting 3m isk :-(

This is just... terrible. You dont need to do silly experiments to calculate what ship with what fit mines how much. The only thing harder to calculate may be round trips to unload cargo if you do them.

2:58 going afk with the Retriever is not wise. This ship is designed to be primarily a gank target.. Kind of. Just look at zKillboard this is the main kill for anything mining in high sec. there alote of various into play here, for 1 the fastest mining ship coventor can do way more then the other barges, not to mention if you jetcan and come pick it up with a maismos you go sky rocket on the ore 2 proc is best tank medium hold but yet you used mining drones on it with is normal it get more then the other 2 barges as you used none, 3 retriever is nice staying outside pretty long but your setup was not fitted to get the best yield posseble, im mining solo alote and i sure make more isk then what you get as your skills are lower as mention in the vid

highsec is noobcluster, any mediocre player gets trough the highsec tutorial then scape fast out to nullsec, highsec is not even eve online. its just not worth it and there is no reason at all to stay in highsec since there is nothing to do there exept visiting jita trade hub

I lost Hulks and Mack in hi-sec while moon mining, right outside our station, when I was alt-tabbed over to another alt. You need to use Procs or Skiffs in hi-sec. Bruh, this video really sucks.
