Thanks Jay. It's kind of a transition period for me. At this point I am saving for a new radio for the shack, and don't want to invest more in the 897. It's kind of a new challenge having not really participated in contests from home with the 897. The CWTs have highlighted my need to get a new radio with good filters ASAP.

Hi TJ - I'm using an FT-897 which requires after market filters. I never bought one for this radio, and at this point I won't because I'll be purchasing a new radio within a year. I never did contesting until recently and was able to mange without the filters. But yes, absolutely, I REALLY need one if I continue LOL.

I've not had any experience with the digirig, but I think it does the same thing. But I also think it goes about it differently than the K1EL WKmini keyer. Because of the difference, I think the WKmini can be used with virtually any radio, while there are limitations with the digirig . . . but again, no experience with the digirig so hopefully somebody reads this who know more and fills us in. Yeah I've seen him and other RU-vidrs have taken notice too. It's cool. It's a great suggestion, but honestly I don't know where I'd find the time to be live that much. I'm at capacity now with what I produce. But yeah, great suggestion. I was sending at 30 WPM but I'm sure you noticed others were sending much faster . . . some at 40+wpm. It's kinda crazy isn't it?

@@RedSummitRF yeah, you’re sending beautifully. I can hear 40wpm but it’s painful to send at this speed. The muscles don’t follow the brain hahah also it’s technique, I use the iambic as if it was a single lever paddle. 73!

Hi Brian - I am using the N1MM logging software and a K1EL WKmini. The WKmini allows me to send code via macros in the N1MM app as well as use the CW key depending on my preference. I'm a lefty and I dis use the key sometimes but relied on the macros for most of the sending in this CWT.

Hi Ralph - thank you for your comments and for watching. 1 - the shortcuts or cut numbers are common for this event. And yes, the most commonly used ones are N and T. 2 - it's nice to slow down if you can, but it isn't always feasible. If I wasn't using the N1MM logging software that allows me to dial it down quickly, I might have just did the spacing. The Yaesu menus are tough sometimes. But yes, it's something I believe in doing. 3 - I started filling out some of the exchange before they sent it because N1NM lists their Name and Number at the bottom after I fill in the call sign. Some argue that this shouldn't be allowed. It's convenient. I like operating both with and without that feature, depending on my mood. 4 - I felt the same way as you, a bit hesitant, at first because of the speed emphasis. As it turns out it's a mixed group, with more in the club than not being very willing to slow down and repeat as many times as needed. I do encounter some who will move on after I ask for a repeat more than 2-3 times. But I've learned to not care about that anymore. They are in it to make as many Qs as possible and I get that. I slow them down. As for me and MANY others, we are there to improve and fellowship so I'll always stick with a person and slow down if I can.
