Not quite...! don't forget about the effects of the inverse square law. the reflected light has further to travel therefore will be dimmer, over short distances the difference will not effect the result.

If the second strobe as at the same places as the *mirror image* - not at the same place as the mirror then it's the same distance, isn't it? The mirror image is always as far behind the mirror as the real strobe is as far in front of it. Of course the mirror image position could easily be outside the studio in which putting a real strobe there might be difficult and would be useless unless you knocked a hole in the wall.

Yes you could use a speed light/flash gun. You will need to turn the energy down on the flash to get a short duration, compensate with higher ISO.

HSS actually gives a longer flash duration, freeze mode gives the shortest flash duration. The shutter speed is irrelevant, it is the flash duration that stops the action. Thanks for watching.
