The problem with the US railways is that Amtrak is a private company, you should nationalized your rail. The problem is the same with our British Neighbors.

Amtrak being private has nothing to do with the problems of our rail service. We don't move people with trains in the US, we move freight. Long distance passenger train travel in the US is little more than a gimmick for the Amish and people that hate flying. We have cheap enough gas and availability to owning cars that train travel is just not worth it. Amtrak only borrows the tracks it travels on so in order for us to have rail service like Europeans we would be starting from scratch. Not to mention most of our cities and towns are not good places to get let off without a car. I'm only stating the reality. I'd love it if we traveled by train more often here. I love them.

Your right the railways in Britain are rubbish at times, because they are run by people who only care about money and not improving their service, only so they can line their pockets more gold. Also the the old fashioned signalling that we use (Excluding HS1) is not as reliable as standard European signaling which is one of the factors that play a part in late running of our trains.

it is effectively a minor design flaw in the fairings between the coaches that allows a build up of high pressure causing that woa..woa...woa sound. Gives it character, bit like the old paxman valenta engines on the br hst 125.

They may have louder engines.

No its because the coaches on the europestar are smaller than a normal coaches s8ze

My guess is that it has a middle deasle engine that makes it 'vroom'

Archies Orchids Well I didn't really ask him. Maybe I went too far, shinkansen has an enormous speed with 320 km/h but imagine that I only realized yesterday that the TGV has a speed of 320 km/h as well !!!!!!!(as the video maker told me) so maybe I was a bit wrong

Yeah it is expensive, I think it would be worth investing in a country wide high speed system though. The US is almost as big as Europe and they're covered in high speed rail. I have a few friends who've traveled to Europe and they say the system is cheap, fast, and easy to use. Maybe some day. :)

its Interesting if trains just do 125mph or even 100mph the travel time can be brought down to 12 hrs rather than 24 on NYC to Chicago. We in India have similar distance route(distance equivalent to boston-chicago) and our premium train does it in 15.5hrs (in fog condition in 20hrs).

+Charpentier Lucas US should look for 125mph-140mph trains on lounger distance and tgv like trains for shorter distance.

It wouldn't be possible unless you run it through the desert, it wouldn't work with just a straight line through America because the rest of the country may have to travel states to reach it. America is too big for it Edit: Whoever it was I forgot said about Europe and the USA. You don't see a TGV in Italy do you? No. Each country has different train system. To do the SAME train through the whole of America is near impossible. I say impossible because it's possible! Just with trillions of dollars

Because of the stupidity of many landowners. They get angry when someone wants to put a 5 meter wide track on their lawn but they won't care if someone wants to bulldoze their house and build a 12+ lane highway, cause cars are "progress".
