It's just the nostalgia from back when poker was great/exciting. I give Gabe credit though, throughout the years, I can't tell if he's as dumb as his commentary or if he's trying to "untap" the glass....
I know I'm late to the party but dang made me sad man I love hearing his corny jokes and the history on stuff idk what he's talking about it's like he don't value what he adds to the game. He will be missed
Gabe mixes great humour with knowledge of the game and its players like no one else. He is Mr High Stakes Poker and the show will be less without him. Thanks for all the great memories. Need to go back and watch all the old ones again for something like the 5th time. Never gets boring.
I’m 25, recently started watching poker, not much of a player. Yet I’m still looking for your commentary Gabe. You will be remembered even with the generation difference. Best!
All poker enthusiast know who you are Gabe. Young n old alike. Most people that aren't poker fans don't know Phil Ivey or DNegs either. Even they aren't house hold names. Hold your head high my brother. You are a legend in our community.
GTO is overrated we’re human beings, everyone trying to spend their time trying to figure out how a machine comes up with its plays and it’s gonna be a while
Gabe, thank you for everything. Your commentary on season six during Dwan's $260k river bet bluff was the reason I started watching the game more intently. Your comedic and professional insight is what made this show so special. Wishing you nothing but the best for what lies ahead, you will be greatly missed!
Gabe, your witty commentary has elevated the entertainment level of this entire game for many years. With or without you, we'll all be continually grateful for how much fun you've given us. I hope you continue, but if not, thank you for all the laughs.
HSP and PAD are probably the greatest poker shows ever!! Since the GSN days it still beat everything that PokerStars put together. Those were really fun too, no doubt, but, man, there's something about these shows. The best players, the best banter, and the absolute best commentary. The whole vibe was just always so great. Can't wait to watch more.
Thank you for the memories Gabe! Absolute goat commentator. Whatever poker go does please don’t bring in those boring commentators who are like “ I agree Ali very interesting sizing” every 10 seconds those guys make me wanna never watch poker
@@scottpremo4865 I’d probably just talk about the hands and throw in a few jokes but I’m not a poker commentator. Nothing against the poker go guys they are just boring asf. Feel like they should get Bart Hanson or something to commentate the high roller tournaments at least he doesn’t make me want to fall asleep
We lost Mike Sexton and Norm Macdonald too soon. Now we have to say goodbye to Gabe. You taught me about Imhotep and where "poking the Bear" came from. You are a fount of wisdom and knowledge of life and poker. We love you for it. You bring humor and we always need that. You are a mensch in the greatest sense. May all your cards be live and all your pots monsters!
Chino talking to the other players "put my number in your phone, send a text back so I can save your number" Every single person with money who likes getting paid back "nah fam, this is work phone and its all messed up"
We love you Gabe. You and AJ are high stakes poker! Only poker lovers would have a PokerGo subscription anyway and we were watching this show when it first aired on GSN. You don't have to retire but if you must, you'll be sorely missed!
Thanks for years of laughter and insight we’ll miss you Mr Kotter. In closing I’d like to add that being an elder is one of the greatest things about your commentary. We all learn something of pokers history with you around and that will be missed. Enjoy your free time!
As a casual for about 8 years I appreciate the old school guys explaining what is sort of the "standard" and how these modern players are breaking it. So Gabe will be missed, always felt nice hearing his voice watching late at night
There is still a lot of old guys watching Gabe. I can relate to all the old stories. The kids need to hear the poker history, (all the know is GTM), you’re the only place they can get it.
Stay Mr Kaplan. I've learn poker by watching this show and by listening to your analysis back in the days. And I still find you spot on. Besides, the pair of you are the most entertaining to watch. Mr Kaplan, a legend in the poker world.
Correction. WAS. Recent seasons have been a bore. Poker after Dark was the best. With the bar/lounge and Shana Hyatt/leeann tweeden. This is as boring as watching a $1/3 game. even JRB is bored
I'll echo the rest here that Gabe is one of the very best 2-3 commentators of all time, perhaps Mike Sexton is the only guy I can think of that is comparable for intelligence, understanding of the game, people and great sense of comedic wit.
Gabe you are my favorite celebrity! Even though I was born in 1978 at the peak of your fame and have never watched an episode of Welcome Back Kotter. In your honor, I"m going to finally go watch it. As well as your basketball movie. Enjoy your retirement.
I learned so much about poker reasoning from listening to Gabe Kaplan. Also, contrary to what he imagined, lots of his poker fans know him as a standup comedian then mr kotter and on and on.
Gabe, dripping sarcasm and genuinely hurting the feelings of his long time co-host. Mentions his regret of where his potential was when he first met Bobby Balwin and that now the only people that know who he is are have a PokerGO subscription. It’s crazy because when he first started saying he was retiring and that he was no longer qualified to commentate it felt sort of humble and tired. His feeling are obviously complicated, but it was just a rather jarring way to go about announcing his retirement and going on to thank Mori for, “whatever it is that he does”. Gabe will always be iconic and I’m sad to see the guy go, but if he’s not happy doing it - well, he shouldn’t. Pretty gangster move to retire on air like that, though. It’s literally to keep Mori/PokerGO from having the ability to negotiate with him to stay on. Anyways, for all I know, it was a bit that went over my head. My vote goes to Nick Schulman or Ali Nejad as they’re both grade A commentators.
Gabe is as iconic as phil ivey , Daniel, Hellmuth, high stakes itself!... i can't imagine me watching HSP with out him talking making the game more interesting more educational as he did always
Thanks Gabe, for the many years of great entertainment! You're the best. .. I've never thought about it but as I'm thinking I'd love to do poker commentary.
The hand with Hanks and Zajmovic,. Hanks says we can run it however many times she likes, she said run it twice. Hanks then says afterwards, just run it once, costing her around 45k??????
