@@paahto_c not a few minutes in advance. thats ridiculus. even the earliest calls should be no more than 30 seconds in advance. 30 seconds in racing is massive. the driver aint a supercomputer. he is still human with a human memory. ifbeing that far in advance is a good thing, heck. why not just fire your co driver, then read and memorize the pacenotes before the stage.. - not that i would no. but you guys are just kina ruining op's good little joke/ comment.
@@socks2441 Well each to their own. I saw an interview with some WRC driver a few years back and he was talking about different co-driving styles and how some drivers prefer really early notes and others prefer notes when you're almost on top of the corner. These drivers aren't professionals anyway but, even so, I guess if it wasn't working out for the driver he would request a change of co-driving style or, if that didn't work, he could change co-driver no problem.
And, by the way, I wasn't trying to take the steam out of OP's original comment. That's totally cool if it's a joke at your man's early pacenote calling. But I just feel like OP might not have been aware that co-drivers continue to call out pacenotes after the finish so the driver is aware of the corners after the finish boards. Ah but sure, fuck it. No use in me making a bloody final year thesis out of it! As the fella says, "Sure we'll be grand"
THAT IS ONE HELL OF A COMBINATION. Century's MOST RESPONSIBLE CO-DRIVER and Century's MOST CALM DRIVER... For the co-pilotl; he is responsible because he is desperate to save his ass... For the pilot; he has been CALM all the way. Even when the co feels that they might be dead when they are coming to the hairpin... Lovely.

Every onboard video I try to listen to the co-driver and make the turns in my head as per the pacenotes. This is the first time I've been able to follow the co-driver and actually make all of the correct turns in my mind. I think this guy was really on point.
I have to admit, if I ever had the cojones to do rally, this is the way I'd want my co-driver to be. You wouldn't want someone who's shy and mumbles. Or talks like the manager from "Office Space" ... yeeeahhh, if you could left two at eighty, that would be greeeaaaat, mmmmmkaayyyy?
This is pretty intense stuff and the co driver has had maybe a bit too much coffee but in fairness to the driver he kept it on the road and didn't make one mistake. Good job.
Kristian Kumpula The co-driver says the next obstacle/turn ahead of his previous call, then repeats both of them however many times he's repeating, so the driver knows he's only talking about the next two corners. It may seem confusing, but it's a pattern you have to catch on with him. It also helps that the two have driven before so they both understand their reactions to situations better than the audience lol
I mean you cant really have two of the same corner right? So lets say you have a fast right turn. You won't have fast right fast right immediately. There's usually a gap or it's a bigger right turn. If it is a fast right and then a fast right later on again the codriver would say "fast right into fast right again".
This is the first video I've been able to keep up with the co-driver and I know nothing about rally driving, so I think he is actually exceptionally clear. Listen to what he says and watch what the driver does next. He clarifies when nescessary by saying "again" or motioning with his hand to indicate the direction he is giving is for the current turn.
The only rally in the eWRC Results database that matches these two in a mk2 Escort is the (deep breath) 2007 Riverbank House Hotel Dick Bailey Wexford Stages Rally. If that's the right event, these guys finished 10th overall! Not bad!
The Vibe except even with a gps screen things the driver would still need a co driver to monitor such things. because you do not take your eyes of what passes for roads in rally racing. literally one second not lookin at the road and you could pull a paul walker around a tree.

He means the distance to the next corner...for example 60 (meters) right 4....( the difficulty of a corner ) The system we used here in germany..is nearby.. From 1-5 ...that means a 5right is a flat out corner.. 4/3/2/1 corners slower. And a lot of some other informations about the corner...in or outside driving or tightens or lomg or short,dry or wet corners or hairpins... You have to write the notes on the trainingdays...
