Great ideas! The turn signals weren't as clear as I'd expected, though - or was that just down to the camera set up? A greater separation, especially at the back would have been clearer. Are you going to use the brake levers as a way of initiating the brake lights?
It's down to the camera I'm afraid. In real life they work well and are really clear. Shooting photos or film of bright lights is really challenging and making them look good is very hard. why not use bluetooth, might be better for the batteries. the Adafruit Feather nRF52 Bluefruit LE - nRF52832 even has an accelerometer (auto-stop signallling)
Yeah that would be a legitimate option but I'd rather just add an accelerometer to the Pi. I'm not really bothered about power usage as I have plenty of excellent battery packs that give me a couple of hours usage, which is much more than my usual requirement.
