Wonder what these are used for? To quote, " IGBT controls electrical energy via switching amplifiers in several modern appliances, such as cookers, microwaves, electric cars, trains, variable-frequency drives (VFDs), refrigerators, air conditioners, lamps ballasts, municipal power transmission systems." Google igbts used in electric cars.

the AC-inverter-motor drives, large forklift truck battery chargers, solar and wind inverters are producing harmonics that can burn out electronic devices. in our plant we have to use line filters to reduce the 5&7th harmonics. the power grid is making new regulations. just wanted to add this BS in...:/ great video and a wonderful bench project...thanks...:-) fun

Hate to keep bothering you again. Been on your website quite a few times. Love all the information you provide. Where did you happen to get your VOM1271s? Digikey has 0, Mouser won't have them till the end of December, Amazon but that's a few weeks. Apologize, I found them at NAC distribution. Did you use a SOP8 breakout board for those?

i don't get it. you connect the gate to source and the igbt turns on? where does this vom1271 gets its power from? at 3:26 you show a page where it is says vge on is 7-8 volts, so where is it on the actual circuit?

I have an H-bridge FET circuit that I intend to use to energize a coil in one direction or the other for pulse times of around 20-30 us with 32 A @ 6-8v. The duty cycle will be no more than 10%. Is the amperage rating mainly a result of heat buildup across either a FET (or IGBT) such that a 7.5A part would be safe - or is this more a function of physical bulk to avoid internal breakdown and I need to use full (or higher) rated current parts?

I'm kinda new to IGBT's so one thing that I can't understand.... for me a FET can deliver higher amps due to the lower RDSon than a BJT, so why use a BJT at the output in these IGBT's? Wouldn't a FET be better for power? I mean a FET can have like 1mOhms and a BJT.... not so low.... Is it something I'm not getting here?

so for IGBT you need 8-12v between Gate and Emitter for it to saturate?
