High Voltage - One MOT, Capacitors, And Some Arcs

In this video, I used one MOT with different numbers of capacitors. Secondary side current was measured with a clamp on ammeter. Measurements were taken with no caps, and each time a cap was added up to four caps. Primary side current was measured with no cap, and with five caps. The MOT was run unballasted and was free to draw whatever current it desired from the 120V mains. It did get quite warm. The capacitors were recovered from microwave ovens. Thanks for watching and please exercise extreme caution around high voltage equipment, particularly when capacitors are involved.

That first and second Cap were duds. That MOT was nice and hot. Great arcs and measurements.

PERFECT! Just the perfect voice and cadence for a guy tooling around with high voltage in his shed😂. Don't get me wrong, more power to you, I love sparks and arcs as much as you but if I wrote a skit you would be the example. "As you -btrrt- OW can see -zzzap- OW this -kzzzt- OW setup -zap- Ow is a little -brrrzt- OW more powerful -zaaap-OW" 🤓😜

High Voltage from Microwave Oven Transformer (MOT) wiring some microwave capacitor circuit in series and great arc, and Microwave Oven Transformer (MOT) was heat.

If you had used the diode, you would have a voltage doubler--pulsating. It is wired with the diode and capacitor swapped from the conventional half wave rectifier, but you will get something like 5.6kV peak out.

I have 2 questions. Does the MOT still have the shunts between the coils? Is the primary voltage 120 or 240v?
@BillGilmour519
@BillGilmour519 7 лет назад

@breezetix
@breezetix 3 года назад
@@hardcoreplayafromthehimala4888 any transformers with iron cores can still produce voltage from 50 to a few hundred hertz. if its lower than 60 it'll of course give you like a few hundred volts. if more than 60, it'll give you 2k. even at like 300 hz it'll probably still give you 2k.

Micro wave capacitors all have a coil inside , so they cant get carched
@BillGilmour519
@BillGilmour519 8 лет назад
+su shi Actually they have a safety resistor inside that discharges the cap when the microwave is not in use.
@anasroumeih3605

why the arc is getting bigger when adding more capacitors ?
@kane3331
@kane3331 3 года назад
I believe if you wire two capacitors in parallel, and then the transformer in series with those, you get resonance. Not a good explanation, sorry 🤷

most including some of the ones he used in the video have a resistor built into the cap to discharge them but i recommend discharging regardless just in case. because you know the whole instant death thing
