Doesn't matter how high they can touch what matters is their vertical if someone is 5 ft and can get 4 foot vertical it'd be better than someone that's 6ft and gets a 3 foot vertical
As amazing is that is. It would look so much more impressive if it was professionally recorded with some cool angles. The right photographer could make him look like he 20 feet in the air.
billygoat ... can't believe that anyone 'liked' this stupid comment. We all know this dude ain't Ryu from Street Fighter -- jumping over people's heads. Cmon, man! Stop hatin'
Wilt Chamberlain was 7'1 300lbs Had a 45-50 inch vertical so he could touch 13 feet Ran a 4.4 40 yard dash Bench pressed 550 pounds But for some reason he "Wasn't athletic and would be destroyed by Shaq"
that vertical and his benchpress gets higher and higher every time pretty soon the word will be he benched 600 pounds. i first heard he bened 450 in a documentry of arnold swartsenneger
Wilt Chamberlain ran a 4.6 40 at a weight of 290lbs hand timed by Hank Stram HOF Kansas City Chiefs coach. He also ran it barefoot. The 4.4 40 was from when he was in KU (college) hand timed at a weight of 240lbs. Now this is what he said he ran but, if he ran a 4.6 at 290lbs I really don't think that running a 4.4 is that much of a stretch at all.
Figuring out his vertical is easy if you know how high he can touch (presumably 13') and how high he can touch just standing (no jump). You just subtract the difference. 13 feet is 156 inches. According to the Draft Express website, the average standing (no jump) reach for a 6' 9" player, with shoes on, is 9' or 108 inches. 156 minus 108 is 48". This obviously assumes he actually touched 13 feet (I don't know how official the measurement was) and that he's 6' 9" with an average NBA players standing reach. 48" is incredible. There are very few people that can jump that high.
+Russ Tanner Yeah that's a way to figure out his approximate vertical but standing reach varies considerably between players so by using average standing reach there's still a range of several inches, maybe up to 8 inches or so. I just wished they measured his standing reach in this video.
don't forget to subtract around half a foot because when you jump, you jump off of your toes which means your a little higher up than when your just standing flat footed. you would have to stand on your toes to see your ground reach
Dj Sarandos That's not how they measure vertical leap. Vertical leap is measured by taking your standing reach and subtracting that number from the highest point you can touch after jumping.
Blows me away every time I watch!! You always hear stories of dudes like Earl The Goat being able to grab a quarter off the top of the backboard, but this dude can actually do it, and it’s on video!!😲🤦🏻♂️🙏🏻🙏🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Resident Zendrich Well it is the tallest isn't it? I know that it is not the furthest from the earth's core because that title belongs to the Chimborazo in Ecuador due to the shape of the planet. But what do you mean it isn't the tallest?
Very cool video! I grew up in Pasadena and we use to play in B-Ball leagues at Robinson Park gym. I moved away from Dena in the early 80s so I am too old to remember Doug Thomas but I am still glad to see the energy is even more HYPED with those guys than it was with us. I can only remember a few guys that could "get up" as we used to say, but I don't remember anybody that could GET UP like this brother! Congratulations Doug Thomas!! Thanks for keeping Pasadena and Robinson Park on the map!!
Dwight Howard is 6'10 and his highest reach was 12feet6inch was documented on sporta science and this guy went all the way up to 13 feet and make it look easy
@@ynot6781 But even at an average height he could touch his forehead to the rim, which means his hand would be between 12-6 and 13. BTW, I don't believe that is the case. His two foot jumping ability was over 50". I haven't found anything that verified his best recorded vertical jump from a standstill, but it's unlikely that he gained an extra 10" or more by getting a running start.
@@nigelryan5658 Ermm I'm oriental Asian and they're, you know. Sooo you see, we are different class and standing.... 🙄🙄🙄 And it's also the first time I stoop down replying to you. Won't happen again even if you ask.
Hahaha. There's a big difference between highest jumper in the world and reach. They need to measure how high his feet go. I'm assuming this guy is well over 6'
+Ryan Smith Agreed Ryan. His arm span and height are both great. He does probably have the highest reach but we could never be sure about the his vert.
Everyone saying hes not the highest jumper in the world he didn’t ever say that lmfaooo the commentator did , he just said he’s the highest in Pasadena and one of the highest in the world , and the man spoke facts
I was there as a baby in my car sit sitting close to the backboard. This man jumped and his sweat landed in my mouth. I jump the highest in my school. I will be the highest jumped in the universe. I AM JUMPMAN!!!!!!
That's crazy. There is no exercises to increase your vertical that much. Just god given. Crazy impressive. Didn't know, and this vid and info is older. Wow.
+zrocks2001 Thompson would STAND FLAT-FOOTED and slap quarters off of the top of the backboard (a regulation game backboard like the one in this video). The guy in this video has hops, but I wouldn't call him the undisputed greatest jumper. Props, though.
@@dawsonleonardi5053 that's very impressive if you done it I know I can't but I felt like the crowd did more boasting than him kind of like they were proud of him
everybody in this video are acting like this dude saved someone's life. he's tall and got long arms and i'm still supposed to be impressed? man, the crap that some folks find entertaining
It also helps that with his hands out stretched he's probably over 8 feet alone. So a 4ft vertical at 6ft4 isn't very good at all. Look at Spud Webb. That's a high flyer!
That’s the most retarded statement i’ve ever heard. Your vertical is not made larger or smaller by your height. God that’s a stupid comment. Only your highest touch is, but since that’s directly related to your reach (max touch - reach) the vertical measurement is the same all around, measuring how high you get off the ground. And considering that, a 48” vertical for a 6’4” guy is WAYYYY fucking more impressive than a 48” vertical for a 5’7” guy. Spud is TINY, and it’s much easier for his body to produce the forces necessary to fly that high. If being taller made your vertical higher, than guys like tacko fall would have 60” verticals when in reality they barely break 20”
I can most definitely salute that, they tryin to sale that like its gonna get him into the nba, evidently he's not that good if waistin away his days touchin cow bells.
I like how the voice over was like "that's like two people. He's jumping over two people". No he's not. He's slapping the guy on top on the forehead. Im sure he could jump over one person, but this whole video wreaks of inaccuracy.
congratulation to doug thomas, amazing ! ! ! ! why alot of hate on comments? he jump to 13' its in the video. what is to hated on that? all those who post hate comment why dont you jump and break that record?
@@jamesjohns7830 Lmao you ever heard of a vertical? Something that EVERY single NBA player has measured? that's how high someones feet are off the ground idiot...
I aint saying old boy can't get up...but I doubt he the highest jumper in the world and that stick with the bell looked like it was leaning a little bit...not throwing shade...just sayin!
A vertical jump is from a stand still position, off two feet straight up, maybe this guy can't jump off two feet well and is only a one foot jumper like Dr. J.
a vertical jump is just that, jumping up, wether you use one leg or two or stand still or un it's still a vertical jump, he can get at least 48" off the ground, few can do that.
