I came here just to look at that again - completely agree. No attempt at a proper tackle, and it was very similar to the yellow card offense at the end of the game, just didn't look as bad. Slightly softer maybe, but very similar.
First Ireland try was a forward pass. How do they not spot these things these days?! Anyway, was a pleasure to watch. England's back-line moves all worked very well!
Much as I love England I've watched them for too long to get carried away. The team are capable of the sublime and the embarrassing.... in the same match.
Scott James Johnson .OK so u beat a useless ausie side u played south Africa lost the series won the dead rubber game beat a few northern hemisphere sides ,won one world cup in 2003 ,which u POM's still go on about which was nearly 2 decades ago ,try winning rwc back to back then u mite deserve some credit ,one good game against the Irish dosent count mate
England need to exploit any weakness in the opposition like I used to do in the mid 1970's. Hahaha. Anyway, always enjoy watching England win, lose or draw. Every England player is special.
Well clearly it wasn't because the ref didnt give it and rugby isn't like football where the refs get to make a decision on what they think they have to follow the rule book
Jacob Stockdale's defence in this game was shocking. Seriously MIA on the Daly, Tuilagi and both Cockanasiga tries. Great finisher but running around like a headless chicken here defending.
@@LeMerch All that's up is that they stuck with out of form & out of position players in the 6N on reputation, got absolutely steamrollered by England, and haven't looked half the team they did a year ago since.
Theoretically yes, England might be the best team in the world on their good days. BUT, England have a huge problem with their mental attitude. We regularly lose away and drop focus in the last 40. If we can keep true, we can win.
JS C I agree about 15, although they just need to swap Daly n Watson. But I think they have the right options at 10 because the Ford Farrell combo works (if Billy's fit), as does Farrell Tuilagi, Ford Francis, and Slade could also slot in if required. That's a lot of great options.
Especially when you realize this Irish team would have crushed any other european team. Eddie Jones has really made a difference and the group he's leading to japan is definitely going for gold. I'm looking forward to not seeing the England-France game :s
Disastrous from Ireland, never seen a Joe Schmidt team look so lost on a pitch. England look very strong though, defo one of the main World Cup contenders
Like Scotland last week and Wales 2 weeks ago they're not match fit. This is pre season. Since this is England's 3rd Warm Up game they will be more ready for the World Cup and I expect them to challenge for the title.
Archie Craigie Halkett All teams should be ready by now. Those that aren’t ready yet may improve but they have a lot of catching up to do. Wales, Ireland and Scotland haven’t got time to catch up with England’s preparation. There are no bonus points to help those teams who have not sorted their pre RWC build up correctly..
@@nicholaswhite3811 what an amazing win for England but saying wales aren't ready is a little short minded considering they beat england the weekend before this
Christopher Bevan not short minded at all, based on the evidence of last three weeks. In both matches Wales played a full strength XV ( injuries permitting) , England fielded a below full strength side with several, players out of normal position. Wales did very little to show they were ready. The margin of victory by England in the first game was convincing, and resounding. The margin of victory by Wales in the second match was about as narrow as it gets in such a low scoring game. I don’t take anything away from the Welsh players in scoring the North Try. They took advantage of the situation they were presented with and scored. But it was lucky in that it should not have happened. The referee was reprimanded for allowing play to continue during a HIA replacement. World Rugby has issued a formal reminder to all referees that when a player leaves the field for HIA play does not continue until his replacement is on the pitch ready to play. If we consider this as relevant the margin of victory was very slim and not consistent with a team that is ready for RWC. Next week may see a different performance and we could then safely say Wales are ready but not until they provide the evidence.
Sinkler has to be one of the best Tight head at the moment..Absolute beast of a man with good hands. He will be instrumental in England's bid for the World Cup.
Another great performance by England. I don’t want to gloat too much as I think we had an advantage over Ireland with the two Welsh slogs under our belt. Plus Ireland looked rustier than the titanic. But a lesser English side could have come off the gas, and produced a much more flattering result for Ireland. As it is; we definitely took full advantage of the situation. I think Italy next week will be a nice chance to try a few new combos, and then shit gets serious. But so far so bloody good!
Kyle Griffiths they did yes, and well done to them however i think England look by far the superior team when you consider wales were playing their A team, England their B team, and the victory was pretty slim (in fact only due to 1 try which legal or not, most refs would never have allowed to happen). I think Wales vs Ireland will be interesting.
@@mezmania239 Manu chews up forward he s the strongest centre in the world. stronger than Sonny. you Kiwis love Sonny and Crotty. but it will be your downfall. thank you All Blacks the cup is ours #Englandupthelads
I’m hoping Joe Schmidt has some super secret tactic he’s saving for the World Cup and losing this game was all part of the plan. Because if I’m wrong Ireland have gone down the shitter
@@benjijoyce6376 9 months late but think he got injured in the WC (plus wasn't really going to start in later stages- watson and may were starters). And has struggled for form and more injuries since. Plus he plays for a shocking Bath team right now. He's got a lot of talent and is still young so will hopefully get back in the squad in future
Still cannot believe Kearney's swinging arm into Curry's neck wasn't picked up. Should have been a red card on the day, and staggering that he hasn't been cited.
this is not the first time either, I think he avoids red cards cos he has a good reputation. in the Pro 14 final he takes out Hogg in the air and somehow avoids a red despite it being the most clear red card ever. he is a low key dirty player.
@@Demondoink1 Oh yes I remember watching that. Owens must have a Rob Kearney sized hole in his vision then. I would say the swinging arm with a closed fist on Curry was worse than his taking out of Hogg, but that both should have been a red and a ban.
Conal Henry True, but I don’t care for the English team, Bundee is born and bred in the same town as myself but I still respect his decision But any who, I’m only asking out of curiosity that’s all.
Nope.. Its Manu and big Joe in open play at the end of the line after Billy has trucked it into the midfield.. They both pin defenders frightened of their power one one one..
@@tollyt7465 JC won't start. As Wales showed in Cardiff, he can't defend. If you match England up front, you don't feed JC. If he starts, it'll be againt USA and Tonga.
@@damianbylightning6823 his defence is OK.. Not great as yet, but improving by the game and I bet that's much of what they're working on with him.. I remember the same things being said about George North and look how that turned out.. I can see it being a contest between him and Nowell to play, and Nowell isn't fit yet.. They both go looking for work, so no need to feed them ball out wide all the time.. My biggest worry is Daly at FB.. He's talented, but I'm willing to bet Watson pushes him out at some stage as he's a far better 15...
@@damianbylightning6823 The big difference is we had two 6s against Wales and our ruck was slow and useless. the two 7s have made our breakdown seriously quick. If we can manage the line out we have a winning combination.
@Firsthgyhgyhuy Lastujhujhuj ... I would say that Ireland were genuine contenders 18 months ago and after those wins over the AB's and England arguably the #1 team in the world. However it seems that they peaked too early. It will be very hard now, given the evidence of this performance, for them to recapture their form of 18 months ago. Too many of their key players are out of form or perhaps on the downside of their careers.
steven taylor looking forward to the World Cup very even tournament. 3 weeks ago Australia got a win against New Zealand then the following week got trounced, England gets a solid win, Wales ends up #1 in the world. South Africa wins the Champions cup. Any of these teams on the day can beat each other no easy beats.
@@paulrutherford5087 I agree, NZ most likely just because it is a world cup. South Africa, Wales and England are joint 2nd most likely. Ireland, Australia are 3rd, despite their recent thrashings I doubt any of the above will be complacent playing them.
An in form Manu, with an in form Billy trucking it up the middle, and big Joe outside Manu, or looping back infield.. Defenders just saying "your man".. "No your man"... "No please, after you"
Watching a inform Nonu. How Hansen's not taking him is unbelievable. Nonu and Laumapi are our 2 Tuilagi's and both not going to W.C. Instead they've chosen Sonny and Crotty. Both injury prone 🤬
Ikr, if you look at the pitch, there are darker patches, the pass started just before the dark area off grass and he catches it past the dark area like how did they miss that?
@@guillaumegenet4248 Yeah definitely forward. The guy caught and passed almost flat footed and left behind the line and was caught after. Even if you argue forward momentum it is forward due to passers speed and position.
Guillaume Genet you are correct a forward pass is defined as when the passer’s arms move towards the opponents dead ball line. But the guys here mentioning the grass lines caused by the mower are citing the evidence that the arms did go towards the dead ball line causing the ball to travel forward. You cat pass backwards as per Law and cause the ball to travel forward. I suspect I’m going to get all the physics stuff about momentum. To save you the bother, I teach physics and fully understand the laws of momentum and Newton’s laws of motion etc etc. Make your arms go back the ball goes back, make your arms go forward the ball goes forward. If you make your arms go side ways and you are running really fast the ball will drift forward but it will be so imperceptible that even with slow motion it will be difficult to see. It is this latter case the Law is designed to cover. If the ball travels forward a perceptible distance it was thrown forward as defined in Law 12 preamble.
Whilst some are saying you can't read too much into these sort of friendlies I find it absolutely frightening when Jones says that they are 10% away from peak fitness and England have a lot more in them. Good momentum has been made so far and we can expect a thrilling world cup whichever way it goes.
Phil Morris what does that even mean “10% away from Peak fitness” ... he’s just enjoying the fact that he’s actually winning again. I’m sure he’ll be the first to say “we lost last week - but to the number one team in the World” ... which all know Wales are not!
Ireland’s first try - that pass out to stockdale was so blatantly forward! It leaves his hands on a clear line in the grass and is collected about 5m in front of it
@@philipeafroboy1 Pause it at 3:04 as it leaves youngs hands and its fine. We have had our share of kick chasers etc offside and been given tries over the years too so I'm not grumbling, just stating an observation.
i mean i'll say it, ben youngs was lucky ireland had a poor day. his entire game was riddled with mistakes and not simply ones that can be put down to him being a bit rusty. bright note was willi heinz impact
I think that’s a little harsh. He had a few duff moments but most of England’s points were scored while he was playing. No way a team can play that well if the 9 isn’t doing something right, no?
@@MartinGFilms He had a very bad game. Kicked out on the full twice. Most of his other box kicks were too long and just gave Ireland the ball back which isn't ideal when you're still in your own half. He passed the ball to the feet of players 3-4 times and once to literally no one. Everyone can forgiven a few mistakes but not 10+ in a single match. Personally I would have given him a rating of 3/10 for the match.
Look, we all know Ireland are a much better side than that, but perhaps the most promising thing for us is that we didn't have our traditional collapse after gaining a good lead and managed to maintain the pressure.
New systems, new coach. Rugby changes just like any other sport. Plus this was a World Cup year so obviously everything came to a crescendo tactically speaking. I don't think it's doom and gloom for England, though. We looked the best we have since 2019 in attack against Scotland and Borthwick is actually picking on form players in their actual positions and backing youngsters like willis, Lawrence, OHC and Arundell. I think they'll turn it around.
Ireland probably realised their front line players were too old after the six Nations and had to blow it up and build again Playing England at HQ under these circumstances is an automatic 21 point handicap but geeze they got smashed
Great performance England. Different class. It seems to me that Ireland need to bring in some new talent and rebuild their side. Tweaking the team with this or that player isn't going to do it.
Eliot Daly has always been a terrible fullback, he is around or thereabouts for so many opposition tries and either gets muscled out of the way or is paying attention to the wrong guy. Hope he does better at 13 this weekend...
Sometimes they can't make it into aus or NZ so travel get paid the big bucks and make other international teams it's awesome and I say good on them they play well
Stockdale is abysmal defensively.. I've said it for 18 months and people just look at his attacking flair.. He's a liability as a defender, and has done nothing to put it right..
Tolly T Interesting. England obviously played a blinder and had an overlap which caused him to rush instead of drift, but it seams he really couldn’t make the right decisions and was caught out several times. Maybe he was just the unlucky position that got exposed, but it happened a few times in the game
@@thecuttingsark5094 it can be worked on, but they're either not doing it, or he isn't listening. It's not just yesterday's game as I've watched him closely. He gets dragged out of position and gives the outside when there's too much space to do it.. I know he backs himself and that's great, but Big Joe is fast, yet not the absolute quickest and he was able to put a yard or two on Stockdale yesterday after being shown the outside. That shows he's slow to turn, and his positional game isn't the best..
Lucky for Kearney Tom Curry is a tough, no nosense man... Kearney put in a cowards challenge ! If that was Farrell, we wouldn't hear the end of it. Or any ither England player.
kiwicamper nz South Africa doesn’t play Japan in the pool ... but between Scotland and Ireland you are very correct in thinking that either NZ or SA will play Japan in quarters. Oh are you referring to our little fun around the park game next week? Cute!
@James Solda Straight and obvious red card. This isn't pussy rugby league were you can team up and tackle people and get dirty cheap shots in on unaware players. Leading with the shoulder at head height is the most dumbass thing ive ever seen.
Six nations winners, autumn Cup winners, and we beat Wales with thirteen men back in March, beat them in the autumn I love England smashing Wales in any sport 😂😂😂🏴🏴🏴
Hard to tell who the real number one team in the world is right now. Going to be competitive world cup. There's a good chance England vs All Blacks in the semi finals
The wheels have come off the Irish potato wagon. I remember all the shite they giving it in the build up to the 6 nations. Predictably, the commas have gone down over there. Not a peep from em!
@@kylegriffiths4463 Wales scraped a win at home with a dubious try using essentially their first team against an England second team and losing on aggregate score over the 2 games. John Smith , I noticed this as well at 2.15 by Kearney. Obviously Kearney couldn’t hurt a fly but but if it had the other way round the Irish would be squeaking and bleating as they always do.
