Hartlepool's problems started directly after the Papa Johns semi-final defeat against Rotherham last season. After that the club went into freefall and finished not far off the relegation places. Graham Lee was sacked. Paul Hartley was then made manager at the start of this season and the results were diabolical. I think Hartley thought the standard of football would have been the same as his tenure with Scottish lower league however he got a big shock. Did not win the first 11 matches beginning with a 0-4 hammering at Walsall and reached a peak with a 0-6 drubbing against Everton kids! in the Papa Johns. I think there were a lot of issues behind the scenes. So in essence we were relegated due to those first few months. I believe if John Askey was appointed earlier maybe we could have survived.
great result for crawley, i'm a barrow season ticket holder and i was there when my lads beast crawley recently 4-0, i thought you lot were going down, i was wrong, well done crawley and what a great away support, real football fans unlike the premier league fakes
Blame that D*head chairman of ours. Would not spend the money and hired a hopeless Scottish non-league manager at start of season who did not have a clue about English style of football. On the subject of DC, the chairman promised him lots of cash, waited until he signed the three-year contract and told him he wasn't getting anything. Stockport is not a big club, but Challinor just wanted to be away and spelt the death knell for us.
Never have understood why anyone would want to be so gratuitously unpleasant. Hartlepool United have a long history and unbelievably good support and the best this person can manage is “bye bye”. Pitiful.
@@colinwhite5355 Indeed, it could just as easily been us (Crawley) who went down, and the way the close season is going it may be our turn next season. Out of L2 at the wrong end is THE worst relegation.
