Seeing Latvia scoring 2 goals in the span of 23 seconds to tie a game was unexpected, but Sweden answering with 3 goals in the span of 26 seconds was brutal. Congrats to SwedenTrain on their way to getting the medals, we were runned over.

@@leonardoholanda2250 Yes world cup. If your team is still in NHL playof when there is cups like the world cup you can't play for your country. If your team is out of NHL they can go and play. I remember the Sedin brothers coming back from NHL in the middle of the world cup when Sweden was struggling a bit and they helped us win. Think it was 2013.

As a Swede and a fan of Latvian hockey I'd like to say there's no easy match against a Latvian team. They fight tooth and nail for every inch. Latvians showed us that hockey is all about heart last year. What sets successful Swedish teams apart from those who fall in the quarters and semis are just that, heart. This game would not have had this result if it wasn't for the players stepping up when things were going badly. It was stunning to watch. I call it now, this Swedish team has heart on top of skill and because of that they will bring home the gold. Thank you Latvia for the challenge.

I don't know a lot about ice hockey except it's fast, skilful, exciting and breath taking at times. From what I have seen so far, Sweden are head and shoulders above the rest of the competition and are heading for gold. Will be amazed if they don't win.

You could say that! I am quite shocked about Merzlikins. It seemed like he intentionally let those pucks in the net. Referees did their usual "Rooting for a team" game by giving mass penalties for Latvia. It's alright. Once the "click" will trigger in their minds, they will go for the comeback. Good job, Sweden for active game and Latvia for hope!

In the fourth goal Daugavins mistakelnly gave a pass to zutterland, in the fifth goal two of Latvias defenders overcommited on one attacker while another one was open and in the sixth goal the shooter was just really open. All of the goals were really nice shots but the situations were just Latvias mistakes

Slikti bija tas, kas mēs tik īsā laikā ielaidām tos 3 vārtus un atdevām pretiniekiem šo iespēju. Pārējā spēles daļa bija vēl tīri nekas, pirmajā periodā ātri gan iemeta mums, bet pēc tam izlīdzinājāmies un tad vēl bija cerības, bet tos 3 vārtus iemest tas bija kaut kas prātam neaptverams no mūsu puses. Jā, nu zviedri jau tiks ceturtdaļfinālā, tas skaidrs, bet mums pēc šī zaudējuma tās cerības jau sāk izgaist. Nu nevar jau vēl zināt, kā mums paies tās 2 spēles. Cerība jau vēl pastāv, bet nu viegli nebūs.

The Swedes are by far the most complete team in the tourney. They were toying with the Lats for most of this game its typically man vs machine when you play Sweden at this level. I dont see how anyone will beat them.

@@Lazybonesitis Past 4 years Sweden only used their local SHL players, which is a big difference from this stacked NHL squad. But yes, even they can choke against nations like Finland, Czech and Canada, even Switzerland looks strong this year. But from previous experience, (with a squad like this) getting the silver atleast shouldn't be a problem. Sweden shuold win this tournament with the current squad 19 out of 20 times.

I absolutely do not understand his contract, it seems somewhere around 5 million per year. That's why the Blue Jackets are where they are! Being in NYC, going to watch the Rangers play Columbus at MSG, and with this clown in goal with a lot of ambition, I'm glad we'll be in the majority for the whole game....if they don't change it.

Good passing plays but I wish he'd shoot more. He seems hesitant in the yellow jersey, same as last year. Don't know why as he's one of the best forwards in the tournament. I expect more from him.

fishy 3 goals. all the defenders just skating and not even try to knock the puck out.. look at the 3rd goal by sweden when it was 2-2, specifically loook at all the latvian players. And the following goal where Daugavins made a pass so illogical.. 5th goal also - nobody cared to defend anything.. WHAT HAPPENED AFTER LATVIA SCORED THE 2ND GOAL??

i said this at the begginning, this year Latvia can only play for staying in top league, childish defence mistakes, squad is weak, and Merzlikins should sit on the bench, his NHL career is finished, some damage is done in him, but he is no longer the GK we all knew, compared to Latvian GK he should be number 4-5 choice, thank you for this year lads, lets hope next will be better, i hope Merzlikins is no longer coming to national team, he is finished!

How do you know if a player is from Latvia? Take any common name and add an "-s" to it. It's like in Iceland where they add "-ur" to everything. Just kidding of course, well played Latvia, but Sweden is simply too good this year. Biggest fear for Sweden is probably facing Finland in the quarter finals, because Finland always plays at 200% against Sweden.
