I've been watching the MLS for a long time now but this it really is jarring how much the quality of the league has improved over the span of just 5 years. Extremely proud of the efforts being made, there's a big future for soccer in North America
I share your excitement. Look at some of the crowds this playoff run. Some of the atmospheres have been fantastic! Especially here in New England, a team who is infamous for their subpar atmospheres. Yes, it was a playoff game but the crowd here tonight was impressive nonetheless. It gives me hope that the Boston/New England market can one day develop a loyal following despite their struggles in recent years to get one. Potential fans are out there. I really want to see where the sport is at in 26.
@@danielhuynh9368 Also, the new media rights deal coming at the end of next year has to be a big one, it's crucial for the future of this league. With that and the momentum leading up to 26, it's a perfect storm for the future of (MLS) soccer in this country.
@@cx34 I can see soccer in the long run being at least the second most popular sport in America. Yes. I think it can surpass the NBA. NFL however is a big question mark. The CTE issue is big, but we humans crave violence. I love the NBA. Basketball was my first love. Basketball will continue to grow internationally, but I also really think the NBA's popularity is overstated by the media. My hope soccer in this country can take the NFL's weekly game of the week aspect and combine it with the NBA's star power. Best of both worlds.
@@danielhuynh9368 I see it taking the spot of baseball because baseball crowds are being getting less and less over the years so the baseball fans I think will come over to the soccer side so same with the hockey fans because a lot of hockey fans also follow soccer so yeah we'll be good standing will be the third best league in the country you know
They did the same thing as LAFC did 2 years ago. LAFC was the best team all season long by a long shot. They played Seattle in the Western conference final and lost badly
Seattle and Kansas City are out too despite the good season. In the playoffs the strategy is very important, that each player keeps his concentration and head in the game, that the team is in good shape physically. If it comes to penalty kicks it is important to have a good goalkeeper and that the kickers don't get nervous (Philadelphia vs Nashville).
It's crazy that the entire season comes down to a one game elimination playoff series. The Revs were the best for the entire season and because they lost on penalties, their season is deemed a failure. So dumb.
Well, I think there is a lot on our minds right now. For the performance today, it wasn’t our best. Disappointing to be honest. One man really wanted it today, and played for the badge like he always does. He was also the most enthusiastic during the post match. Could you guess who it was? I think substitutes could have been made sooner and some of the wrong players were taken off. In my opinion at least, I have no power to question Bruce especially after what he has done for us. Personal thanks to Bruce for everything he has done so far and what he will do. I wouldn’t want any other manager. Despite the somber mood, Adam and Tajon goals were incredible. The best and worst moments of my life in a two and half hour period. Thank you to Tajon for everything he has done for us, and I hope he comes back someday. We’d welcome him with open arms and I can’t wait to watch him at Brugge. Same goes for Matt, Adam, Dejaun, etc. if more moves materialize for them. I would like to complain about the gap of time but I don’t want to look sour after what this club has done. I genuinely don’t know what I would do if it wasn’t for these players, the staff, everything. This club means the world to me and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Historic season and just slipped up at the end. I hope the boys have their heads held high, some seriously special people in around this club. Counting down to preseason now!!!!! GO REVS!!!!!!!
Watching in UK, great game, great atmosphere! MLS really has made huge improvements (I've been watching since i lived in DC in 1996). Looking forward to the weekend games. Hoping someone new wins it (Union please)!
As a Canadian, proud of Buchanan is time at the Revs. Onto bigger and better things in Belgium! Thanks for helping him mature New England, he’s a great addition to our national team
Their goalie was overrated, didn’t stop a single penalty kick there. NYCFC goalie stopped one, Philadelphia Union goalie made two penalty kick saves (and Nashville missed the net two other times to go oh for four).
@@boonerang - his goals allowed per ninety minutes wasn’t the lowest in the league, yet he wins best goalie award. Like I said, he is overrated, he came up short in the time when he was most needed to show how good he’s supposed to be.
Playoff system is fucking stupid anyway. It doesn't get as much respect but I think the Shield matters more. They were far and away the best team in the league this season.
These playoffs have been so fun to watch, alll the teams you would think that would go through lost. Seattle, skc, Colorado, and now the revs who were arguably the best teams in the MLS this year.
Damn. Full disclosure, I'm a Red Bulls fan and was pulling hard for New England for one reason - Yankee Stadium. Yes, NYCFC is our biggest rival, but that wasn't even going through my mind while watching the game. Now, if NYCFC beats Philly and RSL wins against Portland, then the MLS Cup will be between NYCFC and RSL at Yankee Stadium. For a league that's been trying to legitimize itself in the United States (and Canada) where the Big Four and college sports reign supreme, having the final at Yankee Stadium would look really bad for the league. I understand NYCFC's stadium situation is shitty and that New York real estate is no cakewalk, but they've been in the league for over half a decade, at some point NYCFC needs to get a stadium built. There was a comment that I read, however, that made me see a side that I initially didn't think of - NYCFC winning MLS Cup would be huge for soccer in New York, both for them and for the Red Bulls. New York is dominated by the Big Four, and anyone who supports either the Red Bulls or NYCFC knows that (MLS) soccer is largely irrelevant here. No one truly cares about whether New York is red or blue unless you actively follow either club and the league as a whole. If NYCFC goes on to win, it will put people in the New York Metro on notice. New York sports fans like winners, just look at the Yankees for example. NYCFC winning MLS Cup will surely turn heads and gain them a lot of new fans, and the Red Bulls will surely gain fans as well. I just hope that the Red Bulls win it before NYC does, but either team winning the Cup will be huge for MLS soccer in New York. Also, if NYCFC wins it and gets more fans as a result, then the outcry over their stadium situation will only grow louder. To think that the Yankees want more parking spots. I want to be able to go to Hudson River Derby matches away at a soccer-specific stadium. It's going on seven years. If not now, then when? P.S. - New England having waited over three weeks between their Decision Day match and this one seemed like too much. I honestly believe NYC having played more recently gave them an advantage.
Rivalry aside, I honestly think New York needs a silverware because football is dull in New York, so I have to agree, it will also be a great derby if a lot of people become fans of either teams
New York Metrostars vs New York Cosmos derby sounds a lot better than New York Red Bulls vs New York City FC. I wish several MLS would just rebrand already and quit being stubborn.
@@ninoskaarte Yeah, but some MLS clubs like Montreal and Columbus have rebranded senselessly. I wish the Red Bulls would rebrand, though, but I doubt that will ever happen. If anyone's being stubborn, it's Montreal's owners, who are refusing to listen to their fans and instead telling them to shut up and accept the rebrand. At least Columbus' owners listened to the supporters.
okay, why does NYCFC have to give me a heart attack? Sands is out. Wait, we're winning 2-1, no it's 2-2 and Castellanos is out with a red AND we're going to penalty kicks against one of the the top goalies in MLS. Oh great. We're sure to lose now. What, we won!? I am shocked. Go NYCFC!!!
Couldn't be happier nyc won but how does an organization think giving a team more than 3 WEEKS OFF... If a good idea?!?!?!? For any competition in any sport!
@@edwardeduardo8561 they could have done what others teams have done in the past, set up scrimmages in the off time to try to remain sharp... they chose not too
@@ryanjohnson6272 it is. I don't know what made you think it isn't, but football (⚽) is the most played and most watched sport in the world. It may not be the same in every country, but for a lot of countries in Europe, South and Central America, Africa and some parts of Asia it definitely is.
I don’t like NYCFC winning the cup, but I’m not against them getting a stadium so they’re not on a baseball field. It would be better for all the other teams playing them too.
Wow talk about a stunner I had New England to represent the east in the final man I never ever thought that anyone would be able to stop Buchanan especially the speed he poses
im from paris france and i can see a bright future for usa his football mls is catching the american level tie with mexico in my opinion behind brazil of course but that’s how you will build your 2026 team and i see them in the round of 16

Matt Turner does not like to come out of the small 6-yard penalty box. I've watched him give up several goals this season where he could have simply come off his line and punched out the ball. Another example is tonight's game he sat on the line and it cost New England a goal. He is a great shot blocker though yet shot-blocking is not enough.
Alright. Someone tell me. WHAT THE HELL WAS BRUCE ARENA THINKING???? What I’m mad about is how he decided to change things up last second when it matters the most. Instead, he changes things up by putting in traustisan instead of boateng, which is what always happened and almost always resulted in a goal. WHY DID HE CHANGE IT? We would have won easily if he kept stuff consistent. Thank you.

Morning after and I'm just as pissed. Revs were absolutely shite, don't get me wrong, but this forced American playoff system with 1-leg doesn't work for football and MLS deserves to be called out for it.
It’s ridiculous that Revs had to take so much time off before their first playoff game. The bye week clearly hurts the top seeds as we saw the western conference top seed also lose their first round. MLS needs to address this because as of right now they’re not rewarding the first place teams they’re hurting them.
As an LAFC fan, I feel for the Revs fans. Kinda diminishes the importance of the reg season. Even super clubs like Man City can have an off game and lose to an inferior team. Wish the MLS emulated the leagues in Europe. The team with the most points at the end of the season should rightfully be crowned champions. Teams should be rewarded for their consistency over a long season. If we’re gonna have playoffs tacked on, how about a much shorter reg season like 16 games and fewer playoff spots. Might make it more interesting.
Let MLS be MLS I think. There's another side of drama in this. European leagues are all the same, with promotion and relegation system. Kind of predictable at times with huge money spending teams come out on top 4 each season. Apart from LEICESTER (EPL) years ago... I think MLS is better this way, be unique than the rest of the world in terms of tournament structure.
@@xammendoza667 I agree with pretty much everything you wrote (and I was also ecstatic when Leicester City won the title). I’ve been trying in recent years to support the MLS since it’s our domestic league. I do appreciate there’s more parity in this league so any team has a legit chance to win a title. My one gripe is I wish the reg season mattered more or maybe have less playoff spots. I think of college football where literally every game matters. I’m sure the MLS is doing things that’s feasible business wise and what appeals to the US market.
@@johnhwang944 the regular season matters in the event that you get Champion League spots depending on where you finish in the league on top of the MLS Cup Winner and the U.S. Open Cup winner entering in Champions League. The league will not expand the schedule and we keep getting more franchises, which means there's no way you will play every team at least once in any season.
Ha, somehow I knew that New Englands dominating regular season would mean nothing as they would choke in the playoffs. And they did 😂😂 (I’m an ATL United fan)
And NYC beat Boston to the punch for a major pro sports title. Congrats NYCFC on winning your first ever MLS Cup title and the first top-tier major pro sports title for the New York City metro area since the New York Football Giants outlasting the New England Patriots in SB 46 back in 2011.
MLS needs to fix its mickey mouse schedule. The #1 seed should have the optimal schedule and the rest of the playoff field should have to scramble around that, not the other way around.
The playoff format is so dumb, you can have literally the best regular season out of anyone in the history of the league but you lost one game and season over, dumb AF And I'm not even a Revs fan, it's just facts, and they were punished for being the best by having a 3 week layoff with no games, absolute joke of a format
Some similarities with the MLS Cup: NYCFC gets tied in the final minutes. Penalties must decide the final outcome. Johnson saves both second PK goals. Alex Callens scores the final PK victory goals. NYCFC wins as the away team.
That is USA soccer. You Play the best in whole season but you lost at the end because of luck. In Europe NE will be a champions. Don't give up Adam Buksa when you don't score Penalty you played well in this season.
yes my friend, in Europe, mainly in the Bundesliga, in the first game of the season, we already know that Bayern Munich was champion. so excited I can't wait to know who will win the Bundesliga in 2022
Undoubtedly they had a great season, but the Eastern & Western Conferences unbalanced schedule doesn't allow for Shield winners to lay claim to the MLS Championship. Get rid of the Conferences, but then teams have to travel ALOT more.
@@benardboateng8291 Blake quite simply has been better this season. But last season Blake was gkoty when Turner was honestly better. Balances out but awards should be granted by merit, not the narrative of who won the shield.
