The Wizards (Pre- Sporting KC name) were from KCMO and KCK, our stadium got built in KCK after playing in Arrowhead Stadium (home of the chiefs and located in KCMO) and then Legends Field (home of the KC Monarchs and located in KCK). We are Sporting Kansas City without a distinction for a reason, as everyone within like a 30-50 mile diameter considers themselves a Kansas Citian, and we have been repping both sides of the state line since the early 2000s. Hence our "Two states one team" motto. It's oftentimes a hard one for people that don't know the MLS lore or history of the team to comprehend, but a vast portion of the population of both states (outside a few other cities) lies on the state line of Kansas and Missouri. We share teams in many sports! You're technically not mistaken, but we do play on the Kansas side since our stadium opened. Love the rivalry too. I thought it would take more time to build, but nope! Here they are playing each other in the playoffs.

@@RyanHorseHelmetI attended Wizards matches almost religiously at Arrowhead; part of a group of "Domeys" who had a standard spot in the grass area between the road, and the parking lot SE of the stadium and tailgated at nearly every match, and was looking forward to the new stadium being built at the old Bannister Mall site, but then crooked politics, and vulture capitalism led to the misuse of revenue bonds that were supposed to be earmarked for urban renewal lured the team across the state line by one of the parasitic bedroom communities who entice business to abandon the city's core. To make matters worse, the abandoning of Swope Soccer Village by the Swope Park Rangers, now rebranded as SKC-II on the absurd pretense of lack of seating strengthened my resolve. I still follow the team, but despite having played, coached, refereed, and raised collegiate soccer players, I will NEVER step food in "Livestrong" . . . oh, I mean Children's Mercy Park. (Name was changed after Lance Armstrong's PED disgrace.)

Careful...we're SKC fans as well. This is a best of 3 series...STL could come back. They were first in the West for a reason. We need to pack CMP on Sunday and keep our foot on their throats until the final whistle. Hopefully we come out on top.

Red Bulls stadium also has way more capacity than some some of these newer stadiums.

@@sheriffjorkey4458 Not by much. Red Bull's got more of a Tampa Bay Rays situation going on. The place seats at 25k which is pretty on par with an average soccer specific stadium. And they don't even get to 20k on average most years. They'd sell out like one building across the league in terms of size relative to attendance.

The scoreline yeah but not the result for me because SKC may be the 8th seed but it's only because of the first 10 games of the season not the last 10 before playoffs.

The only reason they finished first in the Western Conference is because that Conference has been weaker this year compared to the East.

Maybe, but St. Louis handled Cincy fairly easily early in the year. Like I said, teams have caught on a bit more to them, especially since the start of September. I still think they can come back on KC, but it's going to be tough.

@@Bean1227 , that game against Cincinnati definitely wasn't a good measuring strength based on the fact that both teams had several key players out especially the road team. Also anyone that's been following MLS for years knows that early season results doesn't nearly have the same impact as the last ten games. I think that SKC is going to finish the deal Sunday.

Sporting's HQ, training ground, and most of its fan base is on the Missouri side. So the game may be played on the Kansas side. But most of the rivalry is in-state.

They began on the Missouri side as the KC Wizards. They really goofed up building the stadium in the middle of nowhere, Kansas. They should have built in downtown KCMO, where the new women's stadium is being built.
