I'm always surprised by how well these age; all one needs do is sub in the names of the current (except of course the perennial BoJo) crop of scoundrels, scalliwags and ne'erdowells and it becomes topical

Rodeos in Costa Rica; West coast tiny towns have bullfights, actually riding and bucking contests. They roll up in a truck loaded with teak saplings, as they thin the teak orchards every spring. These are young trees, ten meters long, and the day before, the hardy team chicken-wires a stadium together; the most complex tools a shovel, a hammer and plyers, complete with bleachers, bull entry; all in a day, and having watched at least twelve of these events, I've never seen a single flaw in their design; at least 20 meters across, minimum three hundred in the audience. Magic . In a day more, it's over and grass has grown over the handful of postholes neatly filled in, not a single sapling left behind, and they're gone , except for a little telltale trash; like it never happened. The night before, horses danced to the tiny band accompanying the 12-second rides; at least one drunk, amiably entering the bullring to help coral the creature back to the exit, hauled off in an ambulance (it's tradition!) When the bull refuses to be led off after circling the grounds several times, crashing mightily against the frail stadium; three old Ticos, bristling with class on their elegant little Paseos, lassos in hand, trot out to everyone's relief, and rope it back to its senses. The bulls are big fat show-off pets, huge and very beautiful Brahmas. In the end everybody wins. You should go.
I watched this without realising it was an old episode (until I saw the thing with the miners) and thought "Hang on, have David & Victoria broken up?!"
I just now got Jon Ricardson's lettuce joke, and I've seen this clip several times. A dialect thing - here in America it's called Romaine lettuce, only learned the 'cos' bit just the other day. Good joke, but then Romaine could work as a Brexit joke...

When Obama was new in office, the opening title sequence showed him making that basketball shot. Then at some point it began to show him missing the shot. Obama is still an extraordinarily good shot with a basketball at any distance. Did something happen in the news that brought this change about in the animation?

I think he was brilliant, super dry and at times hilarious. And I’m in American so I really didn’t even know who he was. But as someone who’s grown up in the USA …. I have many friends from abroad… and my comedic tastes have rarely aligned with my location. Most usa comedian fans, would watch UK comedians and just think they are stuck up dicks. Because in America if you don’t have a fart joke every five minutes, and at least a few jokes about rape and incest… Then you aren’t considered a comedian.

Well come on over to America, and you’ll realize the only worthwhile option is hanging yourself from the garage rafters. And the feeling is mutual no matter what side you’re on, so at least we can all agree on that. I was always strong-willed, And could digest even the most ridiculous politics and shenanigans with my iron stomach. But now I’ve worked up the courage, And soon will be repainting the interior of my home. I settled on a nice “red mist” color, with dispersed fragments of my brain and splinters of my skull. Had enough of this shit, and I’ve done everything I said out to do, twice in most cases 😁💀🔫🤘
