Those of us that tend to study history and historical perspectives beyond reading texts are pretty sure it's more than just fabric, however, my only hope is that it's not the predominant Muslim perspective. While to some it may be a piece of fabric, to others, it's so much more than that.

Now it became a trend like the outfit of the perfect muslim woman like "look i am a good muslim" Before it was just common to cover hair by tradition muslim or not and there was not only one way to wear it. Let s not forget also that a long time ago it was difficult to clean hair several times a week so it was also a way to hide dirty hair and to avoid to have dust on it or to avoid burn of the sun. A lot of rules in books it was at the beginning actually practical rules for hygiene and protection and not to be "pure "in front of God or men. If God feels hair is not pure he would have created creatures without hair. The women should feel no shame to show hair and the good muslim in in the heart not in the scarf.
