@@patogordo1385Yeah, so what guys? Predominantly Europeans are critical to the US for not having the metric system. So why doesn’t the whole world? It’s because it doesn’t matter. The US is large enough and influential enough to keep the imperial system alive. We use the metric system for science because this application actually does benefit us. Changing it in general would actually have more negative effects than positive. Not big effects but still negative.

Modern players are stronger so its not too unreasonable. But best is more subjective, and is about eras, having never been world champion or even qualified for WC match, I'd say theres no way he's top 10. He has won US champion multiple times. I'd say top 15 might be a bit generous but its his opinion

Considering that most nowadays super GMs are better than all WCs up to the 70s and considering all kinds of chess is played nowadays he is quite accurate. Considering the only classical OTB chess I will say he is probably more in the top 15-20 all time. In blitz and in bullet is Top 2 All time.

In another video a long time ago, there was a similar question asked and Hikaru said there is kind of a brotherhood comradery with all the top chess players, but nothing more than that. p.s. I'm summarizing; I don't remember his exact wording, but sounds more like competitors than even friends.

Based on location and tenure, he likely makes between 200-300k at JP Morgan. A millionaire for sure. I honestly would bet his brother has a higher net worth believe it or not.

Dude, Hikaru makes more than Doctors and Lawyers. $200k/yearly is nothing. Hikaru has RU-vid and Twitch where he easily makes way more than $1MM, not to even mention, tournaments where he sometimes makes over $50k in just a single tournament, i.e. getting 2nd in Qatar Masters

I am pretty sure Hikaru works a lot harder. Look at the amount of time he spends streaming, then think of preparations , maintaining his channel , studying games, reporting evens and news and analysing games...and a lot of what's behind.

He was raised in the US, so he's probably been speaking English for most of his life. His streaming career has probably made him very talkative and fluency, of course, just comes from practice.

Definitely, since chess players have gotten a lot stronger over time. This is very controversial but not one chess player from before the 1990's could beat Hikaru except Kasparov and maybeee Fischer but as good as he was he just didn't live during the computer chess era.

​@@alphalance9408 fischer wouldn't be anywhere close at his peak. You're totally right about new generation players being stronger than the last but fischer is wildly incorrect. A few from the past would have a decent shot at beating Hikaru if you just plucked them from the past. Feels like you've picked kasparov and fischer because those are two of the biggest names ever but that's such a surface level superficial choice

Hikaru, Magnus and many of this generation is so good and high rated compared to those in the past partially due to computers and being able to learn the best lines. Fischer or someone completely different from the past could have surpassed them with the latest tech. But he's speaking from an ability perspective and is not wrong. Would be unlike someone of Japanese descent to lie.

I don't think that's entirely true, Tal in his prime was playing midgames and endgames similarly sharp to what's being played today and that was before computers, if he would take minor concessions to get players out of theory there's at least a case to be made that he could take games from todays top GMs

@@alphalance9408 what about Karpov, Vishy and Kramnik? Kamsky and Peter Svidler? And I believe Levon is older than him as well, isn't it? And if we talk about younger than him than I see Magnus, clearly Fabi who is always the underdog and underrated, Wesley, MVL, Ding. I have just listed 11 and I can think of at least 10 more, not even considering youngsters like Alireza. Not all of these would absolutely crush him, not even Magnus can do it but still you can't just say he's better than all of them.
