I agree. one of my favorite animes of all times. it even made me become interested in go. I have a board and the stones and I play no less than twice a week. a shame that I can't play more (and better) the only sad thing about this anime is... that I already know the end. it makes it less interesting. but masterpieces will always stay masterpieces.
The sound design and the directing are pure genius. People have gone through the anime dozens of times without ever knowing the game of Go and still enjoy the show.
True but the ending was in a way perfect. You saw how far everyone was and how much further they had to go. If the manga kept on going it would have gotten stale, like DB has with super.
I really loved this as well, but apparently there was some legal issues that arose, I think from Korea. Not sure if it's 100% true, but look it up. And yes some shows go stale if flushed out to much, but I do believe this series definitely could hv had another season without trouble. I actually started playing go after watching this series.
what makes this show better than other shows based on games and being the best? it was real... aside from a ghost haunting a little boy this show was grounded and the stakes were grounded. at the end of the day the world wasnt going to end. no evil organization was going to take over the world. the board and pieces didnt have a will of their own. it was just people trying their best in life. you could feel the desperation some players that were aging out had when they were trying to go pro. when they failed they went on with their life.
There are so many things you can miss if you don't think about it: from friends Hikaru can barely see when he gets better and have to practice/study all day to other players who spent so much time playing but could not achieve what Hikaru did so they have to move on with their life. There is also a great message about how we all have something from our teachers/parents like when Hikaru was playing like Sai for a few moves
@@nyarlathotep616Hikaru no Go is a timeless masterpiece, Death Note is also almost flawless, but in its second act it makes some mistakes at the conclusion. Go is already perfect. Much superior. Works such as Yu Yu Hakusho and Serial Experiments Lain can be placed next to
Dude, I finished this anime last week, and I STILL can't stop thinking about this episode. This is SAVAGE. Nowhere else in the anime does Hikaru straight up SLAM his pieces down and so FAST. This right here, is the most raw game of Go in the series.
He forced the big guy to wave the white flag quick. AND it doesn't matter if he *the loser resumes he STILL GOING TO LOSE Either way. Fate Sealed. Savage moment by our mc what a beast.
go player here. im not a master or anything but all i learned is in go you have to be greedy and cunning. never forgive your opponent in his small mistakes.
@@user-tb6gi7jt4d According to legend, the game was created as a teaching tool after the ancient Chinese Emperor Yao (2356-2255 BCE) designed it for his son, Danzhu, to learn discipline, concentration, and balance.
I tried it and man even the lowest ranking Go player were like Pro for me ;-; But with Never Give up attitude (taught by this series itself) i tried few games, though its just been few week with around 20 games and I still suck lol but I think I have got kinda better than my 1st game.
@@narnia5404 No it's not.. the nuances of Japanese mannerisms and speech just didnt carry over in the Chinese drama adaptation. And plus they show very little of the actual Go moves or thinking/reasoning behind certain moves. It focused too much on the "drama" aspect of it to make it a faithful adaptation.
@@killuazaoldyeck03 aa. I don't really know if it counts. There's a drama of it too which is very well made. There is this match between Hikaru and a painter guy(i forgot his name) who was not able to take part in Go due to his over- age. A similar episode was there in this anime too but not much time was spent on the backstory. I really felt connected to that episode so much that It made me emotional. (Just for context I have never cried in any show what so ever, but that one made me emotional idk why) That's why that episode has a very special space in my heart
What makes this such a savage attack is that Hikaru never planned it. Since he has never done it before, and gave no signal it would happen, his opponent had no way to prepare. When it began mid-match without warning, his tempo was torn to shreds.
2021...this match is stay as intense as always, the BGM also made it twice better...nowadays anime still couldn't beat this intensity...it gives me chills, every single f**kin time
This is definitely my favorite episode of the series. I watch the entire series once every other year, it's just so real. The stakes of this anime are people's feelings, there is nothing realer than that. Though I think my favorite arc is the Sai Online Arc.
When I first read this comment before reading the manga I was like “tf you mean?”. But now that I have finished reading the manga, I feel this person’s pain ;-;. I too feel like punching a wall.
if it wasnt for hikaru's impatience to get back to Tokyo there's a likely chance he could've seen sai in his play here instead of when he did against izumi
I didn't knew that... That's so sad 😭💐 She inspired so many people to give Go a try and became a part of everyone's childhood teaching moral values by this anime.
If you know how to play go you will realize just how insane this moment is, it isn't cringe by any stretch of the imagination, it is fascinating AND terrifying at the same time
@@charliebaker1427 well, in my opinion she did at least adequately. Not once during the show I thought that his voice was weird because he was voiced by a woman
