I don't specifically remember an overwhelming number of bugs on the day (in June 2023). However, since it is a thick forest through there, high bug numbers usually happen, especially into the summer. It's probably true, which makes visiting earlier in the rainy season a better option. Not only would there be more water in the falls, but less bug activity.
