I hear you. I’ve lived in some exceptional hiking places (Northern Minnesota, Colorado, Nor Cal, Maine, now Southern New Mexico), all awesome places, but Oregon is as good as it gets!
Wow ... you hiked a lot in 2019. I hope to be able to get out just a fraction of the times you did. I look forward to your 2020 hikes. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
Great video between you and Amy. Steens Mtn looks amazing. I need to make a trip to Oregon this year and get at least one hike in. Most of my trips are here in Southern California and in Utah.
Number 11 !! #HikeOregon . My favorite trail to camp-around. If wondering into Washington, give Bare mtn trail and Crystal Peak, a try. Awesome views, a workout for the legs (and lungs), and few people.
As someone trying to get ideas for my first trip to Oregon, this is a really great video. I like that you gave a lot of detail about each choice, that helps a total newbie like myself! -Daniel
Great job! I know it can be so difficult to decide what hikes and footage to include. You did an amazing job editing what I'm sure was a ton of footage and information, while keeping everything concise and yet still meaningful! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this nice comment💕. This particular video did take a long time to edit and it was extremely hard to decide which hikes should be in this video considering I went on 109 hikes in 2019!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and that it gave you some ideas for future hikes. Stay tuned for my new hiking guide book coming this November which will have most of these hikes in it. :)
Hike Oregon I did I noticed a few new faces I alway appreciate the work that goes into putting content together since I am a creator as well good work and keep it up!
So much green and waterfalls! Haha Very different than my video! The only one of those I've been to on your list is Smith Rock and Crater Lake (except I don't think I've done Garfield Peak) Mt. Bailey looks so cool! And the Timberline trail (obviously). I think I've got a couple more things on my list now. Steens mountain has been on my list for a bit, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.
Yea the Steens are just SO far away!! I wish we could have spent longer there. I’ve heard that the Alvord Desert at night has the most spectacular night sky!!!
Aw thank you so much for these lovely words! When you work really hard on a video it feels so amazing to hear this kind of feedback. Thank you, I really appreciate it 💕.
Wow, Franziska! I say it all the time but, This video really highlighted your exceptional photography skills. If you remember, I live in Wisconsin, so the hikes are a pleasant scenery journey for me. And your photog skills and narrative ability just makes it so enjoyable. Heres to a successful and prosperous 2020 for you!
Good to hear from you Jim! I am so glad to hear that you loved this video. I worked long and hard on this one and I am so glad it can inspire people. ❤️
Great video! Definitely going to put this on the places to hike list for the year. One suggestion for the next video, in your slide that shows elevation and distance, an actual map in the background with a pin of the location in the state would be helpful. I was google mapping where a lot of these places are in the central and southern Oregon. Great video and keep them coming!
I was thinking about doing that but this. Idea already took me over 8 hours to edit and pinning a map of a different location for 15 places and then screenshotting it and editing the dimensions for RU-vid was going to take me at least another hour. Maybe next time.
loving your content - well done! have only watched a few videos and notice you're mostly in southern and central OR.. what about us northerners? born and bread here, am so happy to be back after 20 yrs to rediscover the magic of OR! cheers! xox
I’m based in Eugene so most of my day hikes are around here and I did live in Central Oregon for 4 months so I’ve done almost all the hikes near Bend too. I’m working on doing more extensive trips up north this year. Just came back from two multi-day trips up there where I did lots of hiking in the Gorge, southern WA and Mt. Hood area.
Good job from this Colorado/Utah hiker. We're looking to relocate to Brookings and begin exploring Oregon later in 2020. Keep the hiking tips coming and we'll do the same. We'll also create and share our content as we start exploring. Let me know if you want info on Colorado and Southern Utah hikes. Regards, Lynn
It’s highly unlikely unless we continue having a low snow year. Last year that area wasn’t accessible until July and even then there were still lots of snow drifts
When we don't need to be social distancing anymore, I want to go out on my first backpacking trip. I'm relatively fit, I dance ballet, but I am not an experienced hiker or climber. The timberline trail seems a bit too advanced for me to do on my own, but the other trails don't seem to be long enough or too far from me. I'm in Portland and I was thinking 3 days and 2 nights, with no more than 8 miles a day. So a loop between 15 and 24 miles. I grew up with mountain lions in southern CA, so I am not as afraid of them as I probably should be, but I am irrationally afraid of bears. I made the terrible mistake of reading the entire Wikipedia page on fatal bear attacks. Do you have anything you'd recommend? I live in Portland and I don't mind going in any direction. I just don't want to spend 5 hours in a car. I hate driving. Also, if there are any groups you'd recommend joining for people who backpack in the area, that would be great. I'm not super social, but it might be nice to tag along with other people.
Sometimes. I have heard a cougar and I have seen a dead baby cougar while solo hiking. I’ve also seen lots of scat and tracks. But typically I don’t hike in super dense forest by myself and I always carry bear spray just in case. If I’m solo hiking in areas I am seeing lots of scat or tracks in I will listen to a podcast on loud so that it scares away animals. I’ve only had to do that twice when I got really scared and there were no people within miles and miles of me.
Wow - amazing channel! We just found you and subscribed. We are a fairly new outdoor adventure couple on RJOURNEY. Well new to vlogging - not in mileage on our bodies !!!
