Hi friends - this is a wonderful hike on the Olympic Peninsula, up to the summit of Mount Townsend. This is a very popular trail and is now one of my favorites too! There are lots of wildflowers and expansive views. It's a challenging trail as it gains 3,000' of elevation in just over 4 miles, but it's totally worth the effort!!

Hello Jennifer. Looks like you got the perfect day. Very nice hike up to the summit of Mount Townsend. I have never been to that area before. Very beautiful views in every direction. It sure is! Very spectacular! Thanks again for the recommendation! The drive up wasn't as bad as I anticipated. I recognized the road and realized that I had hiked a different trail in that area several years ago. I'll try again next year to hike it on a clear day, just a bit later in June to catch the Rhododendrons in bloom!

Love that paintbrush... My favorite. I have not been to the mountains yet this year. It is calling me but this week is the 4th and the mountains are full of the 4th travelers... So I will go to the desert instead. Beautiful hike Jennifer.

Nice hike but it looked a bit steep going up but the weather looked great for hiking. I love gooseberries of Goose Gogs as well call them but never seen a black one before. I was going to say, as well as the great views, it looked so quite but with a group of 12 ladies all hiking together ahead, I guess that shoots that theory out of the ballpark. Great summit views and nice walk back looking at the snow covered mountain tops, a good work out indeed, cheers Alan

Lol! There weren't too many people out that day, maybe 10 plus the group of 12 ladies! They were chatting quite a bit, but having a good time and that's what matters! It was a weekday- I can imagine it gets super busy on the weekends. Yep, it was steep, but the views were totally worth it. The snow covered mountains are the Olympics in the interior of the Peninsula. I hope I can go hiking there too - maybe I'll get something planned next summer. It really takes a few days of backpacking to get out there into the backcountry. Thanks Alan, Cheers!

Hi and thanks Mekay! The views were really amazing! Yep, it's a pretty steep hike, but the trail is really safe and wide enough so you don't feel like you'll fall. I know some people are afraid of heights, so I do show the exposure so people won't be surprised if they try this hike. So nice to hear from you, thanks!!

Morning Jen, hope you had a good 4th July 🙂 Another stunning place here in this forest, love the trees and the sound of rushing water at the creek. The weather looked gorgeous,it was good that you had your jacket for the wind at the summit as well and nice that you weren't alone 😃 So good to see all of the plants and flowers here in the wild. Its great that you name them, so informative and the mountain views were beautiful. The view of Mount Baker and Glacier Peak and the Cascade Mountain range as well as Mount Rainier from the top were especially amazing. Loved this, its a place we would definitely enjoy. Wow that is a hellish interesting , if steep walk. Given your proximity to the snow on the adjacent mountain range I’m picking it was pretty cold at the summit. So many flowers and of course some are recognisable here but only as garden escapees rather than indigenous !😀

Hi Chris- yep the trail was steady up!! But, the effort turns out to be worth it when we get such amazing views. I tend to get warm hiking up, perspire a bit and then at the top, as son as I stop I get cold from the breeze or cooler temps. That's why I always carry layers to put on up at the top, or stopping point. :) Yep, at Mount Rainier, and in most of the mountains they still have snow starting at about 6,000' level!! O yes, the native wildflowers in our mountains are amazing, thanks!!
