We hiked to see the gigantic Svartisen Glacier and was charmed by its beauty and shocked by its retreat in the past decades. Who knows how much smaller the glacier will be in the future?
Some tips and practical information:
-Trail start location: maps.app.goo.gl/VN1dvPGCjjwVe...
-Trail end location:
By the glacier (this will change every year as the glacier retreats further)
-To reach the starting point, you'd need to take a boat from Svartisen Rana (location: maps.app.goo.gl/JwKYnKQdvPrZX...) across the Svartisvatnet Lake, costing NOK 250 per person
-There is a parking lot and a cafe at Svartisen Rana, where you can purchase the boat ticket (the parking cost is included in the boat ticket)
-The boat schedule can be found in www.svartisenrana.no/
-Please note down the boat schedule in advance so that you can plan your hike and be able catch the return boat ride
-The nearest major city is Mo i Rana, where there are accommodation options
-There is also a very basic camping site at Svartisen Rana (maps.app.goo.gl/5maSkJ5jHBxub...)
