The Stinson plane crash occurred on February 19, 1937, in Lamington National Park, Queensland, Australia. En route from Brisbane to Sydney, the Stinson Model A airliner, operated by Airlines of Australia, encountered severe weather and crashed into Mount Superbus. Of the seven people aboard, James Guthrie, John Proud, and Joseph Binstead survived the crash despite injuries. They endured several days in the dense rainforest until Bernard O'Reilly, a local farmer and skilled bushman, found them. O'Reilly's solo search and rescue mission through rugged terrain led to their discovery, highlighting his remarkable bushcraft skills.
We hiked up from Numinbah Gap to Bushrangers Cave, along the Border Track to the Stinson Crash and then out through Christmas Creek.
