A Texas man died in the Grand Canyon after being overcome in the heat during a hike. Writer Kevin Fedarko and photographer Pete McBride, know all about hiking in the Grand Canyon. They walked its entire length, a grueling 750-mile trek that took 14 months. The men tell Inside Edition they faced near-disaster many times. Fedarko's book about their exploits, "A Walk in the Park," is now a bestseller.

The best time to hike the grand canyon is in the early spring. The only weight in your backpack is water and food. A small tube of toothpaste will feel like a 100 pounds while hiking up to the rim.

However accounting for being over weight and getting a late start in the day with temperatures reaching 116, I nearly died coming back down.
