Hi Johnny, really appreciate your video! It gives us so much info about hiking the mountains :D I'm planning to attempt Mt Tonodake in Nov this year, and was wondering how do you know which bus stop to alight at Okura and how long does it take to descend? Hope to hear from you. Thank you!
Hi! Thank you for watching. Well, I believe you have to catch the bus at bus stop number 2 from Shibusawa station on the Odakyu line. It should be the last stop. Going down takes about over 2 hours depending on your pace. There are different trails going up there. I recommend the route going to Mt. Nabewari. Okura bus stop - Mt. Nabewari - Mt. Tonodake - Okura Bus stop. It take 7 hours to complete. You’ll see unobstructed views of Mt. Fuji. Anyway, if you have any more questions I’d be happy to answer them and help. Good luck!
Fantastic day hike you got there! How far (distance and/or time) is Mt. Hirugatake peak from Mt. Tanzawa? Did you hike during weekdays? And same here - not a fan of wooden trail😅
Hi, From Tanzawa to Hirugatake should take an 1 hour and a half depending on your pace. I actually have a video of that on my channel. Check it if you have the time. Hiking Mount Hirugatake in Japan - Tanzawa's tallest peak in Japan ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v79Gno7gFd0.html I did this route on the weekends. Hehe! When are you hiking?
@@JohnHikerDolar thanks for the response! Definitely gonna check that video out! Planning to do dayhike this november (for autumn foliage ), during my short vacation in November. Hope trail is not too crowdy, and again thanks for documenting your hikes!
Hi, John! Saw your reel on ig (new follower) and followed you here (subscribed). I really appreciate the amount of information you provide in your videos. As someone new to hiking, I’m really interested in the hikes that you’ve done. Just a quick question, do you think this hike is doable for a kid? We hiked Mt. Oyama last May and it was amazing, my kid enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts. 😊
Hi, thank you for subscribing. Well, I’ve seen some kids from 5th graders to middle schoolers hiking in groups. Most of them climb up to Tonodake. They had lunch at the peak and then they went down. How old is your kid?
@@KJTan-gp5yw Well, Oyama is easier compared to the Tanzawa Mountains. But the trails are well maintained and easy to navigate. As a 7 years old, she’ll make it i guess but will surely be complaining a lot Based on Exp when I hiked with an 8 year old in Mount Tsukuba. You can try and practice at Mount Tsukuba first then try Tonodake.
@@JohnHikerDolar Thank you for your insight! I really appreciate your input on hiking with a kid. I reckon there will be some inevitable complaining. 😅 I suppose taking frequent breaks and going at a comfortable pace will hopefully be helpful for us. Thanks again for your reply!
Hi! It is a 6 hour hike vice versa. 4 hours up and 2 hours down, rest times not included. I stopped a lot to take photos and video clips so I spent like 8 hours all in all. If you’re a fast hiker it is a 6 hour hike. The trails are well established so it should be easy 😁.
@@chilly2171 You’re welcome. They are fixed. But they may change this year. I believe there are many buses going to Okura Bus stop the earliest is at around 7:00 am. If you have a team with you then you can take a taxi instead for an early start.
