Hey Kraig, I just wanted to drop by and say how much you've inspired me to start creating my own videos. Your content has been incredibly motivating and I'm truly grateful for that. By the way, if you enjoyed exploring Madeira and the Azores, I'd highly recommend considering a trip to the Canary Islands. I'm currently here, trekking through Tenerife and La Gomera, and it's absolutely breathtaking. Especially in the winter, it's a destination I'd recommend to everyone. Keep up the amazing work and looking forward to your next adventure! Cheers, Fridtjof
The bean stew is called fabada, made with faba beans and cured meats, red from all the paprika in the sausages. The sausage is chorizo, smoked if local to this area, you can buy it hot or sweet (not hot), but it's always smoky. Also very popular is the blue cheese, this area produces the best blue cheese in Spain, that's the reason for all the dairy goats you found. You were extremely lucky with the weather, some years there is snow in October, you were lucky that Summer was abnormally long and warm. There is a holy site nearby, during holy years there is more tourism around the are you started your trail. The shepherd dog had a collar because there are plenty of wolves in those mountains, also some brown bears, definitely something to consider if you're carrying food and sleeping in the lower areas. There are strict rules for camping within national parks, I agree some are absurd. You were lucky, fines are high. The day 3, where you call it boring is the Ruta del Cares and it's probably the most walked path in all of Picos, probably all of Spain. That's why it's paved and tunnelled. It's an easy hike.
Thanks a ton for this one, Kraig! Of all your hikes, *this* is the one I’ve always been most inspired by. I planned out a trip here not long after you originally posted, but it never ended up happening with the pandemic. This extra insight will be a huge help for my eventual visit there! I’m excited for it all over again!
Hi Kraig, thanks for the guide! Super helpful and detailed video for all of us hikers in Spain or Europe. I’m sure lots of people will benefit from your AllTrails tracks and tips on campsites and routes. Cheers!
I asked about this video two years ago and there we go :) Thank you very much, Kraig. I'm gonna try this trail this year. You inspire me to do awesome trails. A huge thank you :)
Thank you so much for this video, Craig! I was unsure how to go about it but the vid really helped with that. Please make more of this format (especially concerning your hikes in Europe pls).
Hey Kraig huge thanks for such an informative video ! Love the format. Been wishing to do this one since i watched your video years ago, now there's no excuse im definetely going. Hugs from Berlin
Reading the comments here I think its fair to say this was your hike that got a lot of people inspired to pick up hiking. It sparked copy cats and a lot of viewers to follow in your steps. I think its the terrain in combination with the rural villages that at the time of your visit were free of any tourists. I absolutely love the Dolomites myself but these villages... I havent seen them there
Me and a friend went about half your hike with some detours last september, awesome place, went there becuse of your video. Also more of these type of videos
It is my most loved place here in Spain, it feels like home when watching your video. ❤ Thank you for sharing it with us. And it’s cute how you pronounce the names of these shelters and peaks 😊
members only stream reviewing old hikes would be nice. becoming a member now :) always watched the hiking videos but just now starting to get into hiking myself
I Respect you're videos man, 📹 When I went to Big Bend & Europe I got some footage but as a Dad who Raps and Loves camping 🏕 Im gonna work to set up shots and talk more to the camera 📷 since im going back to Big Bend. Thanks for sharing behind the scenes you deserve youre success man, I hope you make movies 🎬 🎞 🎥
Bro I don’t think you will see this but this video was insanely helpful , was planning on going to picos de europa later this year and felt completely lost yet after this boy so much 😂
I love this place ! I find it because of you… even I live just “right there” in Portugal ! Thank you ! Been there 3 times already! And want to get back ! But it’s a lot harder and dangerous than you showed in your video 😂
Kraig, I believe you are not supposed to build cairns yourself. It's something to be left for the park rangers, as they can pick the correct spots and ensure that the rocks they move will not affect the soil or disrupt anything. It's also good LNT practice. Great hike btw, I spent a night at Collardo Jemoso as well - excellent place (and yes, lots of snoring)
"Wow, this video is so inspiring! I love how they enjoy nature and create delicious meals in such a natural environment. Will definitely try these recipes when I go camping with them." friend!" "This is why I love camping! The feeling of freedom and the meal really makes everything more special. This video provides great ideas for outdoor meals. Thanks for share!" "Amazing! Watching these videos makes me feel like I'm going on an exciting adventure. It's not just about cooking but also about a wonderful experience with nature. Will definitely try some of these recipes next time." weekend!"
You can camp on picos de europa from sunset to sunrise as long as you're above 1600m. And all the places you say you were in Sotres are still open in 2024.
If those dogs suspected you were a threat you'd be gone, always got to give off lowkey positive safe energy with them. They are trained to hunt and kill predators.
Thanks for the guide. What about the water situation? Do you need to filter it, or are there plenty of water sources along the way? How many liters do you typically carry with you?
How was the weather in October? I've been trying to solidify a date on when to go this year, debating on late July/August but worried its going to be a little warm
Mate, how was the weather/temperature for sleeping at night when you were camping in the mountains? Did it come closer to 5ºC or did it average about 10ºC or higher?
Interesting that you didn’t learn or remember the names of any of the villages or landmarks and mountains whilst there. The bit you found ‘boring’ is the Rutas de Cares, one of the most picturesque, accessible and popular routes in the Picos - anything but boring.
@@kraigadams Oops! 😊 maybe you are right. Truth be it that I love watching your skilled video making and impressive hikes. Yes was surprised at your missing detail 🙂 and didn’t want to make the usual ‘typical Americans abroad’ comment/joke (I don’t believe that nonsense anyway). I’ve hiked and mountain biked the Picos numerous times. You captured its beauty well. Peace and thanks for the reply.
If I'm alone I usually hike loops so I can leave my extra travel stuff in a duffel at a hotel or whatever. I've never been told I can't leave bags at places I stay. Swiss train stations have big lockers which cost money but work well
@@kraigadams thank you. Also I’ve watched you gear videos, i may have missed it but do you ever mention what your toiletry setup is like when hiking ? Also do you have a date for your Azores trip guide ?
I'll go and add this Sea-to-Summit wipes link (amzn.to/48Z3Rnj) to that gear video to make sure thanks. Azores trip guide will probably be a scheduled stream right after I post the Azores Hiking vid. Still editing it right now. Maybe in 3-4 days?
hahaha Spain is really weird with the timing for dinner and lunch... I am from spain. Lunch between 13:00-15:00 aprox and dinner 21:00-23:00 aprox. Opinell knife. White bean soup = fabada
yeah, i'm getting rid of that old gear list. Just check out this recent gear video for info - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kmxGNBol4jo.html
already have a guide section for the Dolomites video I did - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WKcnvPDgifA.htmlsi=e9EStSZTA54avAGR&t=2720
