Omg yes!!! Chiricahua is FINALLY getting the love it deserves. I live in the Tucson area and I'm always telling people to check out Chiricahua and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
My priorities were so skewed while I lived in Phoenix(Casa Grande). I just worked and partied. Now, in my 40’s, I do nothing but hike and bike. I live in Rochester, NY now, and I always make time for a hike each weekend. Wish I had hiked more when I lived in Arizona
Wow! What a magical park! Those landscapes were beautiful and the rock formations were awesome and so unique. Visually, the park seemed like a blend between Bryce and Custer. At least to me anyways. Great job on the video. Really enjoyed the narration and vast landscape shots you captured. I have had this park on my radar for awhile but don’t think I will make it to southern AZ anytime soon. July is our vacation month due to the kids’ school schedules for the foreseeable future. The southwest in July is a hard pass.
Chiricahua is a hidden gem! We might have said something similar when we were there. The park is definitely out of the way and requires a trek to get there, but worth it if you're "close." And yeah you'll want to avoid July! 😂
Wow! Your cinematographer skills are on 🔥 this episode! That opening montage was incredible! What a beautiful park and an amazing trail. Wish I were there!
Oh my gosh, what a place of geological phenomenon! Thanks for taking your viewers along for the hike here. I have never heard of it until I watched this video, and now I want to see it for myself!
Love seeing you both having fun together! AZ is my home state and just when I thought I had seen all, I get introduced to a new park 😂 Was also interesting seeing the meal prep in the van as I’ve always been curious. Best of luck on the journey up to Alaska!
You guys do an exceptional job teaching us about so many unique facets of the United States history and geology in our national parks, forests, and monuments. The fire lookout looked amazing! We know you Kathryn and you will make that goal of staying in a fire look out happen. 💪
You have become my favorite travel couple to watch! I'm excited to see your Journey to AK! Great content and videography. I appreciate that you don't dramatize things or use clickbait. Keep the coffee and ice cream recommendations coming! And, Kona is absolutely adorable!
Loved hiking in the Chiricahua’s and echo canyon as we were there a little over a week ago during our hiking adventures in the Tucson area. You did a beautiful job of capturing the beauty of the area and included some wonderful spots. Excellent video coverage !
Love it own there. Been a while since I've been that way. Great video! I heard through the history books that Cochise, that great native of America is buried in a secret location somewhere around there. Yee-Haa!! You got to be there in the early morning or sometimes at sundown to here the spirits moan softly thru the canyons. Another great one. Your editing is awesome! I'm north west of there. Way up by Lake Havasu. Peace. Be safe! :-)
How cool to have a Sunday upload…means I can watch it right away! Great vlog! What a cool park with all the views and rock formations…I’m digging it! Let the journey continue….
Yay! We are hoping to post Sundays and Thursdays this year. It’ll be a couple weeks until we have enough content for two videos a week, but Sundays for sure for now (assuming we can edit and upload fast enough) 😃
Not sure if you are past Tucson but Tanque Verde Falls trail seems like something you guys would love! It's dog friendly and involves some climbing over rocks. About 2 miles of creekside walking and the bouldering leads to tanque verde falls! I bet Kona would love it :)
Absolutely love following your adventures and the quality of your videos!❤ We are planning a cross country road trip in our self built Promaster van. One of our stops will be in Chiricahua National Monument. We are seniors with some mobility limitations, so we won’t be doing the 8 mile hike you took. Where did you camp while you were there?
Hi! There is a campground in the national monument that could be a good option. But we actually boondocked at the nearby Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area. It's a popular birding site to watch the sandhill cranes hang out and fly by. We were there the end of January and there were lots of them there. I believe we found that spot on Campendium. We do have a blog post on our website that shares more about how we find free places to camp in the US. adventuresofaplusk.com/how-to-find-free-camping-in-the-usa Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK any time. I know you have a lot of travels in your book, but I highly encourage you to come visit the Driftless Wisconsin area. It's a glacial anomaly along the Mississippi River Valley and it's unforgettable. I live in the La Crosse, WI portion of it. There are amazing hikes on bluffs that tower over the river. They're not mountains by any means, but the bluffs are pretty special and the scenery is unique to this area. Check it out!
Make sure you hit fossil Creek which is outside camp verde. Get Irving flume parking pass and get ready to enjoy!! I was there yesterday. Kickass!! Timmy C Arizona
This was incredibly fun to watch! We will definitely copy your travel itinerary when we get out that way!! So very cool! Love the new Alaska graphics ar the beginning of the Vlog; super cute!! Excited about this new adventure and learning more about our stunning country & esp. Alaska!!! As always, thank you for all you do!!🏔🐻🐾🛶🥾
I love this place. And to think that most every inch if this part of Arizona was traversed by Cochise, Geronimo and all the numerous Chiricahua apaches.
Surgarloaf is one of the nicer and short hikes, a few rattlesnake hissing but great scenery. Chirichua is a scenic peaceful under-rated park without the crowds, not too large, that I can hike the main canyon within a day. Big migrating birdwatching region , I would like to come back in winter .
What a beautiful place! So many cool things to explore! Your lunch looked incredible…I will have to look for that sauce next time I’m at HEB! Haha your pants were backwards…made me laugh when you said that and Adam’s man down was funny too! Thanks for all the history…trying to wrap my head around 27 million years ago!
Just found your channel because you just travel through my area (SLO County, CA.) and just saw this video of the Chiricahua NM. This hits home of me since my Great Great Grandfather Ja Hu Stafford was the first family to settle the canyon in 1881. It was cool to see his cabin in the video. Hope you have safe travels.
@@AdventuresofAplusK Most told story was when “Big Foot" Massai, a Chiricahua Apache stole his horse when he was escaping to Mexico, he eventually got his horse back about 6 months later
Hello! I just found your channel. I watched the Tucson video first (great job!) and the saw that you came to the Chiricahua National Monument. That's my backyard. I live in Willcox and hike there frequently. It's an amazing area, glad you got to check it out and enjoy. Such breathtaking scenery! I will be subscribing and following your journey. Awesome videos, so much fun.
Hello Adventurers😊😊😊, just finished viewing Chiricahua National Monument in Southern Arizona...and I have never been to southern Arizona but have seen everything north of Phoenix so I'm definitely going to check out southern Arizona. Chiricahua is absolutely STUNNING!! Chiricahua reminds me of my time at Bryce Canyon, with far less crowds. Hmmm...are we going to check out Tombstone( my dad has always wanted to go there )
We had plans to visit Tombstone and had such a fun video planned there, but we had some van problems and had to get that handled 😭 but we will be visiting Saguaro soon!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR NEW INTRO! Ps, I’ll be going to Alaska on a cruise during the summer! Can’t wait to see what you show us! Excited for your adventure! 💜💜💜
Great video as always. We have done some of these trails and will do the other ones soon. We followed your advice on our October visit up through Mexican Hat and on to Canyonlands. It was all a great help. Thanks and we look forward to more.
TX Represent! Shout out to H-E-B, 60 Years in ATX. Lookin forward to the new Congress location. Great day hikes, ya’ll! Sugarloaf Mountain was sweet! So happy to see Kona got to stretch too. Inspired us to visit some day 🤙🏽
Hi to the both of you! I’m new to your channel and I’m loving it. I haven’t been able to travel lately, so I’m enjoying your travel videos. I loved the hiking trail and all the beautiful panoramic views you showed us. Thank u so much for sharing your amazing travel adventures. Safe travels! 😊
Half caf backwards pants disaster! LOL! Looks like a neat area to explore. You;re definitely right, don't sleep on areas other than the national parks, there are hidden gems out there for sure!
Loved the part where you threw that rock in the frozen water! Lol you are so correct when you say, NP are nice but State parks and National Monuments are just as amazing, and usually a lot less people 😉 thanks for showing how long it took you to hike that trail on your phone, I was wondering "how long does it to take them to hike 8 miles..." 🤔 😄👍
We spent far too long throwing rocks on the water haha it was so cool! We are trying to remember to show the trail recording at the end so people get a good idea of the length. You can also view our recordings on AllTrails too!
I really enjoy watching your travels. You guys do a great job of sharing information. I am looking forward to your trek through California, since this is my home. Maybe you will find a hidden gem I am not aware of in the state. Not sure if you will have time to go to Columbia State Historic park. It will be worth the travel.
It IS a hidden gem! I did Echo Canyon and Balanced Rocks separately the first time, but joining them into the Big Loop makes for one of the best and most unknown great hikes in the country. I'm impressed with your researching skills, you're picking some great 'less than obvious' trails and sites. Oh, and Chiricahua makes for some easy great photo shots!
What a stunning park. I immediately thought it looked like Bryce but less red - then you rounded it up saying that at the end. Great minds 😉 The big loop trail was beautiful and the smashing rocks into the icy water was very cool. You probably get so bored of me always saying this, but I've only visited the US in the summer (2 trips went into September, but it was as good as summer still), so the idea of southern states like Arizona getting cold enough for ice is a bit mind blowing! Couldn't help but notice the gas stove in the van when you cooked dinner - is that a new purchase ready for the big trip to Alaska?
We could never get bored of your comments! They always make us smile! We were actually super shocked the ice on the water didn’t just shatter instantly. It was thicker than expected. The nights out in this part of Arizona were 20 something degrees. It is crazy how cold it can get! We have actually had that stove almost since we moved into the van. We love to use the induction, but when we are trying to conserve power we use that or a butane stove we have. So I guess in the end we should’ve done a propane stovetop, but we do like that this one can be tucked away when not in use.
The park looks beautiful!! I can’t get over those rock formations-it looks like something from a movie set. I might get a little nervous walking past some of those balanced boulders 😳
You guys are.so.fun to watch especially in AZ where I live. I've been to that lookout on Sugarloaf Mtn. I live in Tucson so have been on Mt Lemmon so many times, White Dove of the Desert, etc.
What a great find. I haven't heard of this area before. After doing some extra research on this area I found out that mountain lions and cougars come out at dusk quite frequently. I may have to visit this area sometime in the future thanks to you guys. This year my travel plans (I hope) include Sequoia, possibly Death Valley, back to Glacier NP as we head up to Banff, Jasper, and Yoho and then maybe down to Swamps of Texas for fall. Have you ever been to Banff. Looking for some good advice.
We have yet to ever see a mountain lion or cougar (thankfully), but I am sure one has seen us. We tend to visit a lot of places where they exist, but the likelihood of seeing one is super duper slim. We went to Banff a few years ago and LOVED it! We have a guide on our site that has some suggestions: adventuresofaplusk.com/3-days-at-banff-national-park/
