Hiking a shield volcano on stunning Jeju Island. This is the highest peak in South Korea and it's worth every step of the 9 hour hike!
Shot in October as the autumn leaves were starting to change, we experienced two different trails and a whole lot of spectacular scenery. This is one of the best hikes in Korea, and one you should definitely do if you are travelling around Korea.

Recently returned home to Inverness after visiting family in Seogwipo, Jeju - do. Only western face I saw were my Son`s, and my own refection in the mirror. Fantastic to see fellow Scots enjoying the beauty of Jeju. Son moved to Seoul to teach English nine years ago, he never returned. He married his lovely Korean Wife seven years later in Seoul. They moved to Jeju two years ago, also got to meet my new Grandson for the first time, heading back for my fourth visit in April 2023, can`t wait, well worth the 20 hours of planes, trains and airports, nice video, best wishes to you both.

Hi Andrew, thanks very much for getting in touch. As two people who lived in Korea for 3 years, teaching English like your son, we fully appreciate the beauty of the country and totally understand why he chose to stay. It was hard for us to leave and the country will always feel like home to us. Jeju in particular has its own unique beauty, as you’ve experienced, and after we left our jobs in 2018, we returned to Korea a year later to spend a month hiking the complete circumference of Jeju-do on the Olle Trail. Really glad to hear you’ve enjoyed your time there, and that you’re going out again. And yes, definitely worth all the travel! Hope you have a great time with your son and his family. Thanks again 🙂

수십년 전, 한 유명한 일본 작가가 제주도 여행을 하고 일본에 돌아와서 말했습니다. “나는 내가 전생에 살던 곳에 갔다가 현생에 살고 있는 일본에 돌아와 있는 것 같다. ” Several decades ago, a famous Japanese writer visited and traveled through Jeju Island. Upon returning home to Japan, he remarked,"It's as if I went to the place where I used to live my 'previous life (前生)' before I was born, and now I have returned to my present life."

We started in the "early morning rain" .. We were accomponied by an American historic Professor an his 6 year old boy. Also by an english Familiy : Amanda ( 8 Years ) and Gregory ( 12 years ) and there Mom from Jamaica... That time ... All not Korean builded a communitie on Cheju-Island.. includes all the Irish priest... My father was there to build up a project with the Che-Ju National University in Physics. OKKKKK But ... We also got the TOP !!! After 6 hours straight forward ..... We arrived there on the Top ! We saw the "Crater" and after a short while... Heavy clouds coming up... That was a very dangerous situation ! The american Prof. told to stay there on the TOP, to stay secure... My father decided to go down... We walked down .. passed the "1000 warriors" ... Millions of liters rain coming down ... All people pissed into the Trowers... That was a realy hard way ... :-)

Woahhhh there are already paved pathways/stairs :O Feels different from mountains in the Philippines... cuz mostly pathways are untouched rocks/slippery mud/large tree roots that look like stairs. Especially when it rains, you must prepare yourself to slip at least once hahaha. But that's part of the fun too so it's okay hahaha
@GoingTheWholeHogg
@GoingTheWholeHogg 3 года назад
Kathleen Ferrer yeah, a lot of hiking trails in Korea have wooden stairways or boardwalk sections making it easier to hike (but less ‘natural’), especially on tricky sections. I guess it makes it accessible to more people, and I do appreciate NOT slipping on wet tree trunks 😂

@GoingTheWholeHogg
@GoingTheWholeHogg 4 года назад
Digiman Digimoniac well, you will get to see a different side to Jeju and Hallasan in February, which is cool. Just be sure to check local advice about the trails up Hallasan, ensure you have a lot of warm clothing and layers. If there is snow and some icy bits then small crampons for your boots will be helpful. The skies will hopefully be nice and bright blue for you! Hey Jasmine, I would say start early to make sure you have plenty of time, take plenty of high energy food to keep you going, drink lots of water, and make sure you're wearing comfortable footwear and have all-weather layers with you as the weather up top can be much colder than at the bottom or could change quickly.
