1’stly ..many congratulations to you and your group you are with, … Can I ask did you do any training, also was it navigable and did you use Maps or GPS …. Loving this series and am awaiting the next set of vlogs …. Well done ✌️👍👌🙏

Thank you for your kind words! The next video will be out on Friday. Yes, we stepped up our walking volume a bit. This was my second time walking the WHW. For the first trek I trained more in the sense that I wanted to do at least one 20 mile day at home with a full backpack. It’s certainly true that the fitter you are the more enjoyable the whole experience becomes. Now, after a couple more treks I would give the following advice: Do some test hikes and analyse your weak points. Mine are eg my blister sensitive feet and hills, because we live in a relatively flat area. So in order to be prepared for weak points I experimented a lot with shoes and socks and did some stairclimbing workouts to simulate hills. The 20 mile hike wasn’t physically necessary, but nevertheless it helped me psychologically, as I could tell myself „You can do this, you‘ve done ist before!“. Also, be comfortable around your gear, shoes and clothing. Test everything before. The runners say „Nothing new on race day!“ and it holds true for hikes as well.

With regards to navigation I‘d say the trail is well signed and you are usually not alone. With the group we had the advantage of a guide, but I don’t think that would really be necessary. The Skye Trail, eg would be a different matter. That trail isn’t marked that well. I navigated with Komoot and had everything (maps and gpx track) downloaded beforehand not to be reliant on phone reception. www.komoot.com/de-DE/tour/732769550?ref=itd

If it’s your first trek ever going with a group would be a good idea to get accustomed to the ways of trekking. My first WHW was my first trek ever and I was happy to habe the group to learn the ropes. It assured me not to be alone. Besides, I made some great friends who are still my friends today and even attended my wedding.
