Wow Ryk, your memory and observation powers are certainly top notch! When I got to Halton East and saw on the map where the Way went and I was a bit mystified. Could not understand why the bridleway was not used especially as it was more likely that Lady Anne would has used a bridleway compared to the paths across the fields. There was no fundamental different in distance but the hiking experience both historically and physically felt better. I had originally filmed a piece about the bridleway but the audio did not really work and I felt the explanation was dragging away too much from the Lady Anne story. Although I followed the route in to Grassington, I decided to grab some water from the outside tap at the toilets near the information centre. From here I travelled into the centre of town and did the filming hoping to show off to the viewer the delights of Grassington. Whilst, these off route choices were intended there are a couple later on which were not. However, I do draw attention to these, so will be interested in your observations of these, you will understand why when you see these. Two more episodes to be published, hope you enjoy the virtual return. Thanks for your comments, I do enjoy your observations and I'm still enjoying your (very) extensive list of trails!

Thanks for the explanation, Nigel - I too walked down through Grassington on both occasions. Still great to see the route unfold before my eyes once more. I expect the off-route choices still to come will include a short hop across to Pendragon Castle, and a similar diversion to Brough Castle. I'm looking forward to the next 2 episodes.

This is absolutely a great trail to do and is becoming increasingly a popular trail. I would say the trail is reasonably well sign posted and be sure to buy the guide book which is full of the relevant maps. The guide book published by Skyware, is actually written by Sheila Gordon who is the originator of the trail and for me Skyware are one of the best publishers of trail guide books, so you could not have a better match to guide you on this great trail. With a combination of the book and signs you can be reasonably confident that navigation will not be a major issue. Enjoy the rest of the series and happy to help if you have any further queries. Wow, you have a great backyard, I'm envious! I love Inov's for their grip and protection, great for Northern trails. However, if I'm looking for a bit more comfort and in warm weather I tend to go with Altra's or Topo. Interestingly, I was just thinking today, my Inov's have seemed to have lost their waterproofness quite quickly, so on the lookout of some good solid boots for winter, any ideas? @@AmblingTrails For winter boots I believe you can not better La Sportiva, for exceptional fit and comfort. As an aside, when I walked the Dales Way I camped in Kettlwell. Big mistake! The church bells chime the quarter, half and hour! No sleep for me that night.

Thanks, that's interesting, I've been near to buying La Sportiva a few times, so maybe now the time to try them. O' dear that is a classic, good job I was not tempted by Kettlewell!
