Mike from RV Fishing Adventures invited my brother and me to hike Mt. Baldy with him. Mt. Baldy is one of the Arizona 2000 ft. prominence peaks, and the highest peak in Arizona outside of the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff. With 4723 ft. of prominence, it misses being an ultra-prominent peak by only 277 feet. The forests had just reopened a few days before, and we were able to make the hike happen. We all had a great time hiking from the East Baldy Trailhead, and we enjoyed MIke's company very much. Hopefully in the future we will get to do another hike together.

Very much enjoyed your video, high quality. Thank you for sharing it. At 5:52, you said that you're at 10,500' elevation. How do you know your precise elevation at any point on the trail?

Hi Jeffrey, thank you and thanks for watching. I have an altimeter on my GPS watch, so I can see approximately what my elevation is anywhere. You have to stay at the same level for a little while for it to get a more accurate reading, but it still gives you a pretty good idea when you are moving.

Hi Nick and Rachel, you're welcome. The forest was beautiful and a nice change from the desert hiking we are used to.

My brother and I hiked the West Baldy trail over Memorial Day weekend and couldn’t reach the summit due to snow drifts about 5ft tall. There was still about 3-4 ft of snow where at that sign where the West and East badly trail connect. We should have brought our snow spikes… Going to try again later in the summer haha.

Hi Ryan, that's crazy there was still that much snow up there a the end of May. I wonder if that's unusual or typical? Either way, hopefully you can make it back there and get the summit in the summer. I've been turned around on at least one peak due to snow.

@@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer I asked a friend who has hiked Baldy many times over the years and he said it’s common for snow to stick around at the top until mid June. Crazy!

Wow, that's a long time, but it is pretty high up, and the trees probably provide some shade. That's good to know if I ever want to do it again. Thanks!

I really love hiking up there like it's one of my favorite hiking spots so far in Arizona especially when u get to the top, over 11,000 ft and its amazing. I want to go up someday again.

Hi Rain, it is a beautiful area for sure. I had a great time and the scenery and views are awesome, even on a hazy day like we had. I hope you can make it back again soon.

Yes, I knew the south side was the true summit. It definitely is bald. You live in a beautiful area!

Did you hike the same day you travelled out there? I always struggle with elevation when I do that and I think you are right; traveling is often associated with dehydration and lack of sleep.

Hi Piece Train, yes we did. We left around 2 am and were hiking around 6:30. Patrick didn't even make it to bed that night, but got some rest in the car. I think I've just been chronically sleep deprived and slightly dehydrated since my oldest son was born, but a lot of that is my fault. It's crazy how much liquid my body goes through. We were above 9400 feet for over 8 hours, so that didn't help. Patrick must be better suited for high elevation than me!

Started out 50's at 6:30 and was in the 70's at the warmest. Mostly sunny till around 1pm or so and rained on us for the last mile.

Hi Sedevacante, the weather was nice. I didn't sweat too much since it was so cool compared to what we've been used to. We got some rain and thunder at the end.

Was an awesome hike! I clocked nearly 14 miles on my watch. Made it to 10,850ft. Was trying so hard to crack 11,000ft but something about leg cramps made me decide otherwise. Was able to get some views to the North off a small prominence, so that was nice. So glad we we're able to make it happen!

Hi MIke, thanks for inviting us, and thankfully they thought better and reopened the forests. At least you made it as far as you did and got to see the views from the prominence. It was a great hike!

I love mt baldy area. Personally it seemed to me that the dark rock dome is higher than the large cairn. It also has the usgs marker on it.

Hi Timothy, yes it is a beautiful area. The south side might be higher, yes. It definitely looks higher.
