Hiking near NYC often means taking a day trip up north to the Hudson Valley / Hudson Highlands to seek out parks and mountains like Mount Beacon to attempt a day hike. With “build your own adventure” trail options, Mount Beacon is a great urban hiking destination to tackle a steep and rewarding 2-mile out-and-back hike or attempt the 8-mile “BEAST” loop, among others. With the autumn leaves bursting in gold and crimson foliage, it's always nice to get out of New York City and venture north to the Hudson Highlands and go hiking before the frigid Northeastern winter hits.
