This is the first part of my hiking documentary on how I thru-hiked the Spanish Pyrenees in 36 days. I was walking from the Mediterranian sea to the Atlantic ocean over Pyrenees on the GR11 hiking trail. This video shows the first nine days from this hike, where I started in the lower foothills of the easter Pyrenees in Catalonia and ended just before I entered the higher Pyrenees.

I’ve watched over 100 backpacking videos, and by far, you have the best. What you and your girlfriend had during this trip has made me jealous as f**k….. But, your editing skills and attention to detail to share your experiences motivated the s**t out of me to get back into the hike fight!

Loving the video, the pyrenees were always a place I thought would be cool to hike and I'm glad I'll get to follow your trip through them.

I hiked the HRP and GR5 between Covid, also the GR10 a few years earlier. I tend to hike too quickly and after watching videos and a great program on UK television I'm warming to the idea of hiking slower. There's something truly magical about hiking in those mountains and enjoying the food from the trail. Thanks for adding the kit list. That external mic works really well.

Loved the video! I just got back from 25 days in the GR11, starting in La Jonquera, to Ordesa Valley (I quit the GR11 at the Refugio Goriz and went back to France by the Faja de las Flores). For each frame, memories are popping! "I ate so many strawberries here" "It was so hot there". I am glad to see that you walked in the same direction, because I crossed a lot of people doing the trail in the other way, it seemed more popular to go from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos :)

Almost thirty years ago it must have been after its inauguration.I did most of it from the med end there were no accurate maps they turned out to be a work fiction and one had to guess most of the route certainly didn’t find the dicey bits. Having done the gr10 six times scenery far superior,just bought cicerone latest guide to revive my my memories.unfortunately at 86 now house bound thanks for videos.

Hi, nice videos thank you. I did the GR10 in 2019 and fancy doing the GR11, maybe this year. Like you I wonder about doing it E-W and would be interested in your opinion. I'm hoping for a quiet hike, the GR5 last year was busy! Cheers

I did HRP 2 years ago and the Spanish side was more beautiful and sunny than the French side. Also, HRP was so quiet, GR5 (hiked last year as well) was way to busy for my liking. Thinking of going back to the Pyrenees, GR11, just because the Spanish side of the HRP was so incredibly beautiful.

Great video! Looks like a beautiful walk. Was it easy to find wild camping spots?
@OscarHikes

Thanks! In the first 5 days it was pretty hard to find any wild camping spots, but once you get to higher Pyrenees, it's pretty easy to find good campsites.

What month did you walk in?

What made you start from the mediterranean, I think most walkers start from the other way. Carl
@OscarHikes
@OscarHikes 3 года назад
That's true. From my own experience, about 80% start from the Atlantic. I was walking the first two weeks together with my girlfriend, and she wnted to spend more time in the higher mountains. Our research suggested that starting from the Mediterranean, we'd be in the higher Pyrenees quicker, so we did that. And while that was true, I think the views start to get better much quicker when starting from the Atlantic, so if we'd do it again, we'd start from the west side. ;)

Planning on hiking this trail this summer! Was it hard to do the trail in 36 days? Did you train a lot? Thanks very much!
@OscarHikes
@OscarHikes 2 года назад
I trained for just over 1 month before I started. It wasn't really that hard to do it in 36 days, but for a more relaxed, slower pace, definitely go for 40-45 days. In the end, I usually walked 40 km on average with 1500-2000 elevation difference each day. 😅 It sounds a lot now, but you get used to it after 2-3 weeks on the trail.
