Alice and I hike Rainbow Falls trail in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Rainbow Falls is officially our first hike in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The Rainbow Falls Trail is 2.7 miles one way and gains just over 1,600 feet of elevation. The Rainbow Falls Trail is a well maintained trail and is very popular in the park. The Rainbow Falls Trail offers some amazing views as you make your way up to the Falls.

Just do it. As someone who was going through adhd medication withdrawal the entire hike because I forgot my meds at home for our trip and is a smoker, this hike was ENTIRELY WORTH IT. Photos do not do it justice. ❤

My wife and I hiked this 28.5 years ago on our honeymoon, March 1995. Started out in shorts and t-shirt, added a jacket halfway up. The last mile or so we was hiking in ice and snow. When we arrived at the falls there was a huge blanket of snow covering the falls with the water falling through the middle of the blanket. It was beautiful, only regret we have no pictures. Highly recommend this hike along with Abrahms Falls over in Cades Cove. Great Smokey Mtns require parking passes now and even with that I highly recommend getting to any hiking spot very early. Parking pass does not guarantee a parking spot. Don't try to park without a pass you will face a hefty fine and hefty towing bill not to mention a long hike back to the city.

It was stunning. And yes! A $5 parking pass from the kiosk at the visitors center is so much easier than hiking miles more back to town bc they will tow you

There was a small flow of water running across the trail and he was hiding under a rock. As we were walking up the trail a group heading down the trail had found it so we stopped to check him out.

Laurel falls hike is a great hike, short about 1 mile or so. But pretty, bring bear spray, lots of black bear, in the area.

We might give that one a look. We rode our bikes around the Cades Cove loop road last week and saw 8 bears. It was a nice trip.

Got so excited watching your videos. I do not like to camp at the big RV resorts. We have converted our minivan into a camper with stove and self contained toilet. It just seemed like it was perfect with the price of fuel. The "off the beaten path" was what we were looking for. So very disappointed that Harvest Hosts does not allow us to be a part of that community.

Maybe I missed something. I thought as long as you were self contained you were OK. Check into Boondockers Welcome, they are similar and have some different rules. We've used both.

At 4:46 you called it a river. It is not a river, it is a stream, possibly some refer to as a large creek, not a river though, in those parts.

I ran into a mad black bear up there luckily I had my 10mm pistol and scared it off before I had to shoot it. Take a gun in those woods

Just did this hike yesterday and we passed 2 bears on the hike, one mama bear with two cubs and one young male just trying to bed down nearby. You just gotta wait them out and let them move on and then carry on, keep your distance and don’t have loose snacks. Black bears aren’t usually aggressive unless they associate you with food or see you as a threat to their cubs.
