Snowdon, or Yr Wyddfa to use its Welsh name, is the highest mountain in Wales, the most famous mountain in Britain, and the most climbed mountain in the world. It’s a peak popular with hikers of all ages and abilities, and if you're planning a first trip to the mountain there are few better ways to climb it than via the Pyg Track from Pen-y-Pass.
Snowdon has no less than 10 recognised routes to the top, but we'd recommend this walk as a great introduction to the mountain. You can catch a bus to the start point, which cuts out a few hundred metres of ascent, and almost all of the route is on good solid footpaths.
You'll pass two beautiful mountains lakes, with spectacular views of not only Snowdon but also the neighbouring peaks of Y Lliwedd, Crib Goch and Garnedd Ugain. The paths are likely to be busy, as is the summit, but make no mistake this is a big serious mountain so go prepared for all types of weather. But most of all enjoy yourself and savour the views, because this is one of the finest mountain walks in Britain.
