I just now saw this along with your Mt. Albert video. Nice job on Bierstadt and wise decision turning back on Albert. I live here and have done Bierstadt seven times with four of those from the winter closure. Don't know if your mother still lives in Rifle, but if so, you need to get the Maroon Bells Four Pass Loop on your schedule. Thanks for all your fantastic work, Alice! Hope you enjoyed Kyushu/Kyoto and brought back that kimono! 😉

Well done, thank you. Hiked Mt. Bierstadt with my daughter two years ago. We got to see a couple of moose in the willows as well as a marmot and pika or two higher up. Your recommendations for preparation are spot-on. Despite being one of the "easy" 14ers, not everything is predictable. It makes me cringe to see people trying to summit a 14er wearing flip-flops and carrying nothing in the way of first aid stuff, extra layers, etc.

You are preaching to the mountain choir for sure. Im told so many stories by people of others being completely unprepared. So awesome you saw moose! Thanks for watching

Thanks for your wonderful adventure videos! I've been a subscriber for about a year. I had done 31 fourteeners, some many times. Now at 72 you take me back up to them. Your Longs Peak video was spectacular! Bierstadt was one of my favorites. Yes, those rare cloudless days with no wind and you are standing on the highest point for miles!

Great video, thanks for sharing! I’ve done Bierstadt three times and it’s one of my favorites. One time I climbed across the ridge to Mt Evans and went down from there. I was tired while everyone else was just getting out of their car and walking up the short trail to the summit. Fun experience! Thanks Alice!

Beautiful video!. Bierstadt does look like it's accessible. I have hiked one 14er so far (Pike's Peak), but this looks like a candidate for number two. My son and I hiked Pike's Peak when he was a teenager, and we prepared pretty much as you said. We got to Colorado and went to Boulder first, where we stayed a couple of days and hiked in the Flatirons. Then we went to Rocky Mountain NP, where we did some hikes above tree line. We then headed down to Springs for the Pike's Peak hike at the end of the week. We started the Barr Trail in the morning and stayed at Barr Lodge the first night (which was good because a huge thunderstorm rolled in that afternoon, just after we arrived, and more came through that night). We summited the next morning with clear views. It was probably the best hiking experience of my life (or one of them, anyway).

Wow, somebody got a new drone, great shots! I wish I had those angles when I climbed Evans, Bierstadt, Spalding, moderate class 3 but tough in the snow covered sections for me. Beautiful! I think the best tip is pick an easy one if your new to climbing mountains. . . and check the forecast!!!

Very well done. I did Wheeler Peak, NM in October and had a little more snow than expected. Watching you go up in the snow reminded me of all the slipping and sliding on Wheeler Peak. The real treat was going to Taos and Santa Fe. I fell in love with both of them. That would make a nice video for you. The cave dwellings at Bandolier National Monument was also fantastic. Always enjoy your videos.

The piano music worked well for this video as you are ascending the mountain and making Walter Mitty style " oxygen choices ". For sure acclimating to the higher elevation will make the difference between success and failure.

Wow, you made that look easy. But listening to how you prepared for it and what you recommended, I know it isn't. I have yet to climb over 10,000'. I’m a marathoner but 14ers don’t care if you drive up and attempt Longs as first 14er. I’ll go again, acclimate and attempt Bierstadt. Thanks for the video. You’re a great guide. Be safe. Great video! The trail didn't look too crowded. Maybe October is the right time of year to hike Mt. Bierstadt, which I understand gets the most hikers of any 14er. Me and my wife and 2 boys hiked Mt Flora, a 13er, a couple of years ago and next time we're back in Colorado, the younger son and I want to hike a 14er. It will be tougher, but we get to spend some time together "training," which mostly means hiking together, so it's a great bonding experience.
@AliceFordAdventures
@AliceFordAdventures 2 года назад
Thats wonderful. I think Bierstadt is a great choice for a first 14'er. Start early! I stayed in Georgetown which meant I didn't have to get up super early since I was so close to the trail. It was colder but as you saw not a ton of people.

It's so crazy for the trail to look like that this time of year. Everything in this video should be covered in snow right now. It should require snow shoes, crampons, and a lot of mountaineering experience to summit. There's so little snow in the mountains right now. Along the Front Range, where I am, there's been no measurable snowfall yet this season. It's Dec 6. The average first snow is mid-Oct.

In 1995 I hiked my first two 14ers Grays and Torreys. Since then I think I’ve done 10, Longs being the most challenging. If anyone is extremely bold and peak physical condition, Lincoln, Bross, and Democrat south of Breckinridge can be done in one day, but most split it up into two days like my brother and I. Cameron ridge is considered a “14er” but I don’t since it’s a 14000 ft. ridge and not a peak. But I’ve not done Bierstadt or Evan’s.
