In July 2022 we set out to walk the Cape Wrath Trail. When planning the trip we used a book published by Cicerone written by Iain Harper known as the Cicerone book in which the different route options are split into stages, 14 in total.
This series of videos is presented in stages as detailed in the Cicerone book.
This is our part one which shows stages 1 and 2 of the Cicerone book. We try to show the route, the terrain and possible camp spots along the way.
Join us on out journey to see if we make it.
00:00 DAY ONE intro and getting to Fort William
00:34 Ferry to Camusnagaul
01:10 Start in Camusnagaul START OF STAGE 1
05:55 arrive at Corrlarach Bothy

@@davidalexander287 we finished July 31. Started 20 days before that. So you're doing it again? Are you taking different routes this time? So I guess you had the same good weather as we did. Weren't we lucky.

@Tubba Travels it will be different and very ambitious route as I will be trying to visit places off the Harvey Map route such as Craig and Uag bothies along with Applecross.
@tubbatravels
@tubbatravels Год назад
@@davidalexander287 I've not heard of Applecross but I believe at Craig there is a hostel with a rather interesting man who runs it. Quite eccentric I hear. If I do it again I would like to do the same route as it was spectacular but I would probably end up taking different options in the spirit of new adventure. Good luck I wish you well.

Enjoyed the video, love your enthusiasm and the sense of humour. Thanks for the useful info as you go re camping spots 👍 I notice you wearing boots, many other people I've seen on their trail videos talk about using trail shoes, I'm a dyed in the wool boot man myself and when (2024, hopefully) I get to tackle the CWT I'd love your feedback on whether the boots worked out for you!. Great stuff and hats off for sharing your adventures, look forward to next instalment.

Hi George. It's a hot potato for debate. I have seen the trench foot of some people who wore trail runners and it looks like it would take weeks to heal. There are also those who embrace wet feet all day everyday and seem to have no problems. When we went in July - August the rivers were not in spate and most we could easily cross. It may have become a big pain if all the rivers were much deeper. Before we left we made the decision to take little river crossing shoes and take our time to carry our boots across and dry our feet on the other side. Apart from a silly slip in a river we kept our feet dry the whole time but it does take longer stopping to take boots off and dry the feet on the other side but we were in no rush.

Just in case you mean mine Heather 😉 mine is a OMM bag. I love it, big compartment for my to hand stuff but also a pull down part at the front for the map which is great. Again, like Niall's not fully waterproof so things need to be kept in zip lock bags inside just in case of downpours.

Great video looking to do the CWT in September and using this as a reference thank you. What was the mapping you used in 3D? really like how you can look at the route before you go great idea 😊
@tubbatravels
@tubbatravels Год назад
we plot a gpx route into a free online planner , gps training it's called and then upload that file to the ordinance survey app which you pay for and it makes 'fly bys.' We only did it afterwards so we didn't see the route before hand but that would have been a good idea. Actually Map girl recorded the route, what we actually did on her phone in the ordinance survey app and then did a fly by so what you see is actually what we did but you could do it the first way I said to see your route before you go. I screen record it using quicktime. I'm happy the videos we made are useful to you. Nice one.
