The GR 221 on the island of Mallorca, also known as the ‘Ruta de Pedra en Sec’ or Dry Stone Route. We explored 169kms of trail over 8 days travelling through dry stonework terraces, cobblestone streets, mountain villages, pine, oak and olive groves, and across coastal cliffs with breathtaking views.
The GR221 is an UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Serra de Tramuntana Mountain Range. This video is part one of our 8 day adventure, showing days 1-4. Completed in December 2017.

Your storm experience reminded me of a bike trip in England when a hurricane crossed the Atlantic with enough force remaining to make for a tough going. I still remember taking shelter from the rain and wind on the leeward side of a crypt in a roadside cemetery to be able to spread open a map to figure out where we were and what town was nearby. Rivers and streams were flooded beyond any level that people could recall and with cows being swept away. We ended up in Buroughbridge and found a wonderful guest Inn for the night. Despite the inclement weather it was a great adventure

It's funny how adventures with the worst weather and toughest conditions tend to remain in our memories the longest. Hurricane winds are no joke! I'm happy you were able to find shelter and still have a great adventure. Thanks for watching!

When did do it and what guide book did you use? Thinking of doing it but don't like getting lost by myself

I think it was 4 or 5 years ago now. We used a guidebook by Paddy Dillon which helped but the trail can be confusing at times. There are many side trails that join the main GR221. Thanks for watching!
